Wow. This got a little nasty. I didn't intend it to. I was not responding to the original post but rather to a post about volunteering information that there is a weapon in the car. Of course I would do the same but I can virtually guarantee that an officer's reaction to me would be very different than to the poster. You may think that I'm some bad ass black man with an attitude but I am not. I get racially profiled often and it's obvious. Pulled over for doing nothing wrong. Pulled over for false reasons. Pulled over after they clearly see my face. Bags searched "at random". Followed around stores by security and clerks. ID'd. Need I go on?

As for the video, geez, I don't really see anything wrong w/ what the officer did. How stupid could she be to stay on the phone and resist getting out of the car? Who knows, it could have been a bit of profiling. He may have been more patient w/ a white woman but without several videos, how would we know?

I think it was Dave Chappelle who said something like, "I don't care if they beat me or shoot me! Just make sure that they beat and shoot the beautiful white chick that crossed the stop line... by 2 inches. Damn!"

timgco- Watch the video again, the lady never swung at the officer.

Paragon- You sorry sack of ****, I have been in law enforcement. I've experience the taser, and pepper spray. While neither are pleasant, there are circumstances for the use both. This was not one of them; I'm willing to bet if you follow the story his superiors will agree. He probably won't be reprimanded, but there will be changes in protocol.

She totally deserved it. One of his colleagues narrated the whole thing and justified it. His picture is on there as well- right next to the video. This woman was clearly in the wrong- I can't imagine doing something like that. And it does hurt- but I agree with Wilfred the drama was out in full force. The pepper spray is delicate in traffic stops because she could fight back, run into traffic etc.

I have pepper spray but have been looking into a taser because it allows more distance.

Well this is all been very interesting. My conclusion has now become quite clear. I'm so happy I live where I do. There is an unwritten rule that if Your licensed and the longer You have been, which means You have retested by shooting skill which gets harder every time, You will most likely get a pass when you shoot to kill if situation requires it. I know, sounds to good to be true and possibly over the top but, the benefit of living in a backward part of the world considered by allot but, not myself. It is as forward thinking as I make My little world be. I'm basing My decision to most deffinetly use deadly force so that i will not inhumanely treat a person with pepper spray or taser. I do not want them to suffer anymore than a poor dog I accidently hit and have to put out of it's misery. So the best thing left it appears is to just place the laser on the 40 S&W Glock at the most convenient or visible target on the head and place the slug there. As mentioned above in another post no pain, no witness, and no law suit for causing undue stress and pain.
Our local sheriff is quite liberal especially in a home invasion situation. He says just shoot threw the door as many times as fast as You can, instructing My daughters in particular when home alone, and once all the yelling and screaming stops look out the door and see if they are gone or laying on the ground. Watch them for 30 minutes and see if they move if not drag them in the door and call the sheriff, if in the time before He arrives they start moving they are trying to attempt to hurt You so shoot them again but, aim for the head. No problems open and shut case of self-defense. Oh, they both know how to use My mini-14 with 30 round clip and have been trained exstensively with weapons, My youngest loves to deer hunt with me with her break over Englander youth .223 softpoint with scope etc. and has been through hunter education class that i went through it with her so she would feel better about it. Plus you have to have it to hunt in Colorado for mule deer and elk. I like to go to Rifle, Colorado. She scored perfect and non of the little boys did and she hurt their feelings. It was funny at the time she was 12 and when the little boys and older boys asked her how she could do so well she just said I studied real hard and practiced allot with my Dad. Sad to see them just look at the ground and walk away. She was the same way with her 3D archery competions. When We pulled up the little boys would get mad and cry because they knew that day they would not win because Erin was there. They would be 12 and 14 with her starting out at 10 still kicking tail because she practiced by making Me take a deer target and move it around all after noon so she did not know how far away it was and she learned to judge distance. Well sorry for the side bar but, they keep the rutger 22 with a 50 round clip and CCI hollow point stingers. This .22 bullet unless any better now has the fastest muzzle velocity out. Phil may be able to update that though. I just know that I had been using the top Remington for turtle and snake shooting and switched to stingers because the local coop had started carrying them for the minnow farmers. I had to resight the gun because they shot so high which means more speed and flat trajectory. Well thanks all for the discussion and firm You have been a service even when You had not intended to be. So thanks for reafirming a plan of action I had been conteplating for awhile. Oh, do not get Me wrong I will not be running out and finding reasons to implement this idea but, just helps to know that i should consider the pain and suffering of the perp and just end it for them so they are not crippled or inconvinenced by such terrible things as a taser and pepper. Oh and I have had the experience of both on a dare so I can say at least to the perp "I feel Your pain", where have I heard that before? This way i will not feel guilty about dealing with them in a way that they will not feel pain ever again.

Does that mean you were a crossing guard? I doubt even that.

So, tell us, what does one experience when tasered and what model do you think was used here. F'ing liar. The first putrid thing out of your mouth would have been about service if you really did any civil service work. You know nothing of protocol and especially liability faced in this situation so sit down and shut up and let the adults discuss things here.

By the way, non-compliance is the circumstance for the use of non-lethal force, idiot.

I need to leave my 2cents worth here. I am a deputy here in Oklahoma and I would articulate the use of the Taser in this particular case as completely justified. The driver was on the phone with an unknown person(s) telling them the officer had a gun and was going to shoot her. Is this her mother or is this a group of hoodlums that may be sitting just around the corner. At this point it is imperative that she become compliant and the situation brought to swift closure for all of their safety (officers' as well as the drivers'). The last thing the officer wants to do is to reach into the vehicle and remove the driver if he has access to a device such as the Taser. This leaves him open to being attacked by someone on the floor in the back. Bringing the driver to you by use of the Taser is much safer for both driver and officer. It takes out some of the unknown and allows the driver to understand the officer is serious and to hopefully enhance the drivers' ability to understand the gravity of their situation.

It is my opinion that the use of pepper spray here could back wash on the officer and actually impede their ability to control this situation. (We use pepper foam so we can control the back splash / wash of gases to us.)

Yes, Taser hurts like hell, but just for a moment. And yes, CS in the eyes hurts like hell, but just for a little while. Niether of them are permanent. (And yes, there are a few recorded instances of deaths surrounding the use of CS as well as Taser, but I have yet to see any proof of their being the direct cause of the victim's death.)

As an aside, the first CS (pepper) gases were in an alcohol base and guess what happened when a suspect who'd been doused in CS got Tasered?? Instant fireball... needless to say, the CS we use now is non-flammable...)

Humbly,
K

I respect everyones opinion here. And i am no expert at law enforcement or tasers. But i think if i was a officer and had another officer with me , that i would have put up with alot more blabbing before i tased a chic. Especially twice. Maybe things are a little to laid back here in the sticks . I guess the officer knows best what he had to do , to remain safe.

P.S- I guess that makes me sound like a wuss , but if it was a guy , I think they should have shot him at the first non compliance of a order.

Dug,

I understand about the second zap... I'm not sure what I would have done. It's all about getting the job done safely and efficiently so YOU can go home to your family at the end of the day.

And, a gun's a gun... she'll do you just as fast as a guy...
