Some things to consider ...
Trail conditions dictate how long the train is. For example, if parts of the trail are fine sand and there is little cross wind, to keep yourself out of the dust cloud of the truck in front of you (a very good idea) we all need to drive very slowly (boring) or we all need to hang back a quarter mile or more from the next truck.
Under those conditions, a 12 truck train is now 3 miles long. We want (need, really) radio communications between the lead and rear vehicles. Will we have it? Dunno. Depends on conditions.
If we encounter an obstacle that requires spotting, more is not merrier.
There will likely be scenic spots along the way where we'll want to stop. Is there adequate room for parking or if it's a dead-end or hill climb, enough room for all trucks to park and enough room for U-turns?
In a long train the lead vehicles get to see critters. "Hey, a pack of wild hyenas at 11 o'clock!" is good news for the front. It's a bummer in the back because the critters will surely be gone.
I'm not being negative, just practical. An army of Hummers is fun to think about but not necessarily fun on the trail. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Dammit Rodster. I'm going to disagree with you, here. Totally and completely disagree. You are wrong. Absolutely wrong. Every thing you wrote was in error. Your facts are incorrect and your opinions are blatantly screwed up. You may well be condemned to hell for expressing them. Eat shiite and die.
Okay. I just didn't wanna totally agree with you AGAIN today. But really I do. I second Toots. "What he said."

Sean
ps - This THREAD is 10 pages long and it's a pain in the arse. Imagine an even longer train of Hummers. Cool photo op? Yep. Practical and fun? Maybe not so.

Alec,
If you are going to come, then I'll need to set some ground rules:
First - You will respect everyone on the trip, but especially me.
Second - this is a dangerous off-road trip and you better know how to wheel. Winches are required and I doubt I will allow anyone to come without one.
Third - I've asked some key posse members to tent around me. Since you are coming on a trial basis, you will not be allowed in the posse circle of tents. On future trips this requirement will be re-reviewed.
Forth - You will not ask Racer-X to perform menial tasks. We have an agreement and he works for me, only.
Fifth - This is "family trip". Swearing will not be allowed. But talk of "warm pussies" is acceptable (see my previous 'love' post above). </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Can we set up Ground Rules for the Moab trip, or the Tellico trip, or the Paragon trip, etc.... Public forum, public places...
Hey, can I go along on this Mojave ride? I call it a "ride" because it's clearly not a true "wheeling adventure". It's an historical ride. No problem with that. I think it's great.
Scott, I didn't realize you had such a strong hold on everyone going on this ride. Congrats.
"Posse members"... What a funny.
Anyway, can I come? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Ken, you do realize that's not really Bondage posting all of that, don't ya?
And it wasn't Bondage posting in the Jeep thread - Donnie dilemna either.

I've studied the trail quite a bit and it's definitely at the top of my must-do list. The first ten miles are definitely scenic. I've driven that much of it.

H2F, you thinking you'll make this trip? And camp?
Bondage, is there a <gasp> hotel in the area?

Maybe you answered this and I missed it, Sean ...
How many trucks can travel on one permit? Any limit?
Don't know how you feel about it but the-more-the-merrier does have limits. Once we get up over a dozen it's a whole different ball game -- the train gets way long and the odds of a breakdown go way up. Cap at 15?
