It just started about 500 miles ago, but it's really annoying. No cracks visible. Anyone else experience this?

Tonka,

I just passed 5000 miles and have picked up something similar. It may be the antennae's or...the covers for the running lights up top are a bit loose. I checked the screws and they are tight but the light covers are a bit loose. Almost like the screw holes are not deep enough. Check it out and see if your are the same. The base is tight and water proof but the light covers seems to be a bit loose.

I know someone that had this same issue a while back, all you need to do it take it in and have the seal around the front windshield inspected, I think that they will find that it is not sealed properly and they can fix it... Should be easy....

Tonka,

Have you or did you have your windsheild replace before?

Sometimes they will use the wrong RTV to seal the winshield and it will get brittle. Thus the crackling sound during body flex.

Happened to my Jeep a few years back.

Or it could be your dash?

I stated in a past post that the wind noise coming from the right side of the glass was moving across the glass to the left side. NOW the crackling from around the windhsheild above 50 MPH has started.
Oh I don't want to go back to the dealer. This meen I have to clean the h2 (just got back from the woods................ it is covered from head to toe w/mud)

My H2, Denali and GMC truck all make the same cracking sound. The dealer said that it’s the pillar molding vibrating against the window and remounted it. The noise stopped for a month or so then it came back. I think the windshield is mounted too close to the metal frame around it. There should be a bead of sealer/glue between the windshield and the trucks metal frame. I think it’s very thin and under high wind pressure against the windshield its causing the cracking sound as it is hitting the metal. As we know H2's are known for cracked front windshields when you drop the hood too hard. I may be right or wrong but I hope this helps a bit. BIG-C

27K on 'er, pretty rough use, but never replaced the shield. I'll be careful lowering the hood...

18,000 miles, 1 year +, no strange noise from the windshield, no strange noise from anywhere in or on my Hummer, ever.

It is not easy NOT to drop the hood, and if you drop it too gently, it will not engage, must double check to make sure your hood is engaged. I am much more careful now since I read about the potential problem here. But before that, I dropped the hood many times with full weight and free fall, plus a little extra push, the windshield has been fine.

~25k on mine and the noise is driving me nuts! Anyone who doesn't ride in it all the time just thinks it's normal "wind noise". I have not pinned down the exact location yet but it sounds like a wind causing some form of vibration. I am hearing it from the top left and top right area of the winshield and suspect the running lights in the respective positions on top of the cab?

I think the flapping noise is caused by the rubber weather stipping above the windshield. When I first started hearing it I was freaked -- I thought pieces would come flying off. I've had it in to the dealer a few times to address the issue, but it hasn't really got that much better. I guess that's what we get for driving a square truck 75 mph.
At least it doesn't make the noise doing what it does best.

btw - just turned 10,000 miles last night and the minor flapping noise is the only uninvited noise I've heard in the truck. Friends that go off-roading with me always comment how comfy and quiet/rattle-free the truck is while bouncing around.

I have 24,000 miles and I have the same noise coming mostly from the passenger side right hand corner above windshields. I have to go about70MPH, for the noise to start. Now I have noticed the noise started on driver side to. The noise sounds like something under the headliner flopping around. also sounds like something on the roof flopping. The sound is quite annoying.

Wow. This is weird. We heard the same thing on my truck this weekend driving down to Mason.

Of course mine doesn't happen till around 90 MPH. :/

I didn't notice the noise on the way home.

I've had 2 similar noises by the top of the windshield fixed by my dealer. The first time it was a loose moonroof drain bouncing around at speeds above 40. Second time they tightened the plastic wind deflector for the moonroof. 40K miles later..no more noises.

I had a leak from the center marker lights. I had the same noise that was corrected today. The center marker lights have a sponge type seal and move rather easily. The dealer secured them with a bead of urethane. Try runniing electrical tape over the top to secure the lights and drive to see if this fixes it. I have the Gobi Rack and had thought it was the lights, wires, shield etc. but sealing the center lights fiked it.. Good Luck, I know how much squeaks and rattles bug me.
