Whipple Supercharger: Whipple Programmer or Predator Programmer

If I install a Whipple Supercharger, do I have to also purchase the Whipple programmer to remove the torque management issue, optimize the engine performance, etc... or can all of this be accomplished with the Predator programmer?

From what I understand, the Predator can do it all.

I have my Whipple on the way and the Predator.

The predator has a "performance" program you install and can then further adjust the settings. I like the Predator because it also scans and can install the factory program back into your H2.

So you install the performance program...install the whipple...then fine tune using individual settings.

The main thing you are after doing with the programmer is getting rid of the torque management. When installing the supercharger you will get more HP and torque but you don't get the max use of the power increase without getting rid of the torque management. What the torque management does is pulls timing. So, the more torque the motor has the more timing it wans to take out. When using the programmer to get rid of it you get more of the power the more has.

I would not use a Predator Programmer with a supercharger. Keep in mind that the Predator was designed to modify a "stock" truck. When you bolt on a supercharger, your truck is not stock anymore. You really need to use a programmer meant to be used with a supercharger.

If you are going to spend the big bucks on a blower, it is foolish to skimp on the computer programming. At best you will lose performance - On the other hand, you might lose your engine.

You can use either...

Hey, don't take my word for it... Call Whipple. Ask them if they approve of using a programmer such as the Predator that is not designed for supercharged applications.

Then ask them if they will honor the warranty on your new supercharger using the Predator tuning.

rEmember the Magnacharger comes with a downloader to recal your computer and so does the Kenne-Bell. Whipple uses an interface computer the wires in with the factory computer. Whipple sells you a programmer that will take out the torque management. When you install your supercharger really you only want to get rid of the torque management, recal your speedo, firm up your stock shift points and extend the MPH of the vehicle. I wouldn't try to add more fuel or timing it may not work.

I think that Klaus is right....isn't he always!
I would stick with the Whipple programmer or custom tuning only. You could end up with too much advance or something else that would harm your engine with the supercharger that would be perfectly o.k. with a normally aspirated engine. I would at lease contact Predator and see if they have used their programmer on a Whipplecharged H2.

Bill is on the right path. As long as you don't change the fuel and spark curve you should be ok. But again the torque mqnqgement is the main thing you want to get out of there.
