General Motors To Offer Overnight Test Drives

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

DETROIT (AP)--A new General Motors Corp. (GM) incentive will allow car and truck shoppers to test drive a vehicle overnight.

The offer will last from April 15 through July 31 and will apply to nearly every GM model, excluding the Hummer H1, Cadillac XLR, Chevrolet SSR and Chevrolet Corvette, company officials said.

"We want to tell our quality story," spokeswoman Marcia McGee told The Detroit News in Tuesday's edition. "We think a lot of people out there, for one reason or another, don't consider GM cars. We want them to see how our quality's improved."

The test drive offer is a continuation of GM's effort to lure buyers at a time when consumer confidence is lagging. Sales at the world's largest automaker fell 19% in February and 3.3% in March.

Customers may test drive the vehicles for 24 hours and are limited to 100 miles. The vehicle must remain in the dealer's state.

Drivers must leave their current vehicle at the dealership and must have insurance and a valid driver's license, McGee said.
