Hi All,

I am installing four lights on a roof rack and two lights or the rear of my H2 with a sun roof .... six lights in total .... my question is, where is the best place to install the light switches inside the vehicle ??? Anyone have experience, ideas, suggestions, complaints about location ???

The best place is in the overhead console either short one with sunroof on the front edge or on the longer console no sunroof underside
it should be near the rearview mirror in console. You should use a toggle type switch that is illuminated. You can buy the factory one which will match other switch components in the interior.

IS there enough room between the interior lights and the edge of the roof console in the short one .... the one supplied with the sun roof model ??? And, where can I purchase the switches ??? One dealer in the SF Bay Area told me that these switches cannot be purchased individually ?

The switch comes with the factory light kit. It will fit on the front case of the short / sunroof console. Thats where they install them at the factory.

It is a part that can be ordered. You should not be breaking the entire load of the circuit at that point. Just a relay.
If you don't know what I am talking about regarding the relay - don't attempt to do it yourself.

There is a rocker switch with the LED at Radio Shack that matches the factory ones.

Found this switch module at Auto Zone $25. Part number Pilot PL-SW16. 4 independent circuit controls, 10A per circuit (use relays for higher currents) with touch pad control that sticks on dash below wiper switch and module monuts under dash. Module can be mounted 12" away from control pad.

Pad installed w/covers inplace. Presently working on a overlay in PSUITE that can be applied over switch pad to better match stock H2 dash colors and graphics.

That looks great! Do the tough pad switchws light up ? Also, do you have one set (two lights) on each button ? and lastly, did you do this your self ?

The switches do not light up as yet. I have been thinking how I could back light them by installing a LED below the wiper sw in the empty box where everyone else mounted their sw. Then drill some 1/4" holes in the face of the lower portion of of wiper sw where the sw pads are mounted, next mount the pad to clear piece of thin plastic and glue the plastic to the face of the wiper sw. The switch pad should be translucent enough to appear illuminated. Sounds like a lot of work and I don't have the time right now.

I use the switches to energize relays which will power up my lights. Haven't got everything completed yet. Also I installed diodes at + outputs of the sw module to stop feedback into the module as I use my high headlamps to energize some of the relays also. Didn't know if the module would handle backfeed or not, so diodes were a saftey precaution to protect the module electronics.

I was looking for a DPDT switch for my light project when I ran across that switch module. I am still in the design phase of the project and gathering up parts for a wire harness upgrade which can handle over 700 watts of lighting if need be .

I am installing Cibie E-Code headlamps which can handle upto 160W H4 bulbs, 150W KC Daylighters, converted DRLs to #507 Petersen incadesent sealed beam floods which come on with low headlamps and still retain normal DRL/Perimiter lighting functions (the 507s really helped fill in the dark areas of the stock low headlamps and don't blind oncoming traffic BTW). Will also have provision for projector fogs if I find a set that will fit in the cutouts along side the front tow hooks.

The switch module gives the capability of being able to control all the lighting with the dimmer switch, turn on seperately, disable all. I use the module to control 6 Hella relays that do the actual switching. BTW Daniel Stern has some quality Hella relay blocks that lock togather and make an attractive bank of relays.

I have detailed wiring diagram. Tried to post it, but the file is too big. If interested let me know and I will e-mail it.

the 507s fit fairly well and the light pattern definitely helps the low heads. I removed the mount bracket from the rubber housing and plugged rivet holes with black RTV. Then made new mount from 5/8X1/16" flat strap bolted to rear of housing and to the stock holes for DRL. Bent the new mount brachets to angle the light beam down 10 deg from a level bubble. The light beam is wider and helps iluminate the sides of the road where the stock heads leave you in the dark. The color matches halogens, but wouldn't look well with white HIDs IMO.

Heres a pic of them with stock 9007 heads on a foggy night.
