Hello all, new here. I am in the process of considering the purchase of a 2006 H3 for my wife as her daily driver. She is a truck girl but with the hopeful addition of a little one in the near future we have decided to get her an SUV. We were minutes away from buying a loaded Nissan Murano when she finally broke down and told me she couldn't stand it and wanted to stick with a truck. But thankfully she saw an H3 cruising around and thought she would like to give it a look, which i did today at the local dealer and I know she will love it.

My question is two fold I guess, first is there any room to haggle with the sticker price? I have heard alot of ppl say no as they dont need to due to the popularity. And second I am unable to find a single GM deal that offers any kind of break or cash back for the H3, but I have heard discussion of something called GMID, can someone please tell me what this GMID is all about, I want to get her the Luxury model with leather but the price is just about $2000-$3,000 out of our range being right around $35,850 sticker. Her only wish is that it have a sunroof, I am the one who actually wants leather as we will be moving to the Seattle area in a year and a half so heated seats really are worth their weight in gold in that region. GMID stands for the GM promo "GM In the Driveway" that provides GM employees with two voucher numbers per month they can give to people permitting them to buy at the "supplier discount"; slightly above invoice price. First you need to find someone to supply the voucher (they can be found in the forums) and then a dealer who will honor it (many won't on hot sellers).

Do a search on GMID and you'll find lots of info.

I will be selling my H3 perhaps in less than 4 months to buy another one! Lower than GMS pricing to anyone who will be in the market at that time and wants it. Yes it is used but in awesome shape! </span>

OK, did some digging on the internet and found the attached file pertaining to the GMID promotion. It does not include the H3 in the eligible models list. How did you get the dealership to accept this offer if you did? Also and tips on how to approach my dealership here in Jacksonville, FL with this program would be much appreciated, I asked my salesman about it over the phone this morning and he had no idea and asked me to fax the program to him for their sales mngr to review. And if push comes to shove would offering 2% over dealer invoice get me anywhere or would I be quickly escorted to the door Thanks.

You can always make the 2 hour drive down here as the local dealer will take the GMID discount. At least that is what my sales guy told me. I know they have a number of units on the lot right now.

Thx a million for the information, I will be heading down there this weekend if they take it and my dealership doesnt. The thought actually crossed my mind to go up to Ohio where some ppl have stated their dealers accepted the program. This news has made me a very happy person. Thanks again.

As far as sticker price goes, if you are buying not leasing most of the dealers I talked with in NJ, would take $1000.00 off sticker, They will also cut deals of about the same, on a lease but they will get what ever they give you back and you wouldnt know it in the lease.

BTW: Super information written by 5fstop. </span>

There does seem to be some confusion about GM Supplier Discount, GM In the Driveway (GMID) and GM employee discount (GMS). Probably due to the "S" after GM.

GM Supplier Vehicle Purchase Program (SVPP) allows active employees of an eligible GM supplier to receive a discount that is approximately 2% above invoice.

GMID or GM In the Driveway, is a program GM started a year ago that allows any GM employee (salary or hourly) to obtain two authorization numbers per month for anyone to purchase a GM vehicle. The authorization number cannot be given to anyone who is eligible for the actual GM employee discount.

Either of these two discounts can be used on the vehicles excluded from the employee pricing offer that GM is currently running. These excluded vehicles are:
2005 Corvettes
2005 GTOs
All Medium Trucks
Any vehicle other than a 2005 (that is why the H3 is excluded, it is a 2006 model year).

GM employees are eligible for two different types of discounts:

GM New Vehicle & Company-Owned Vehicle Purchase Programs (NVPP & COVPP)

The COVPP (Company Owned Vehicle Purchase Program) allows active, retired, employees on disability or approved absence (for a period of 12 months) to purchase a new GM driven company car at a large discount that depends on the mileage of the vehicle. (Good example is a few years ago, I purchased a 2001 Corvette with 2900 miles for 35K, and it had a sticker of about 49K.) Spouses and surviving spouses are also eligible for this program.

NVPP (New Vehicle Purchase Program...AKA GMS) allows GM employees, and the following sponsored family members: spouses, surviving spouses, children, siblings (including full/half and step), in-laws (father/mother/brother/sister) and grandchildren; to obtain a GM vehicle at approximately 2% below invoice.

One reason this is called GMS is years ago, GM offered GMO and GMS to their employees. GMO had a greater discount, but it had to be ordered; therefore, it was called GMO, "O" for ordered. The other program at that time was GMS, and it allowed GM employees to purchase a vehicle that was in dealer stock, but the discount was not as good as GMO. The "S" stood for Stock.
A few years ago, GM did away with the GMO and consolidated it what was called GMS.
Dealers and employees still refer to it as GMS, even though it is really known as NVPP.
Some people also started referring to the GM supplier discount as GMS, but that is really incorrect.

SVPP (supplier discount), GMID, and GMS are up to the dealer to accept. They can refuse to sell to anyone on these discounts since the do not make as big of a profit on these vehicles, and in some cases they have been paying floor plan interest on a vehicle a supplier or employee wants to purchase.

Some dealers will accept GMID or supplier discounts but not employee discounts since the dealer makes more money on the supplier and GMID than they do on the employee discount.

The company owned vehicle purchase program can be refused by a dealer too; however, a dealer is foolish to do so, since the dealer is never charged for the vehicle, and the dealer makes 5% of the MSRP for handling the transaction. All the dealer is required to do is pick the car up (if out of state, the employee has to pay the shipping charges), wash the vehicle, and hopefully, change the oil.

Now, are we all confused?

Thanks for the great post it cleared a few things up, I am however a bit confused on the wording. Does...

mean my dealer can accept the GMID deal on the 2006 H3 if he/she agrees to? Or is this program totally unavailable to all 2006 H3's?

P.S. I am still looking for a GMID # asap if anyone has one left and would be kind enought to let it go. I am hoping to get my wife into a 2006 H3 within days if possible and if we can find a dealer to accept the GMID on it.

Zach,

Glad I could help. I have not used the GMID discount there yet but my sales guy told me that started taking them. What are you looking for as far as color and options? They actually have a few Slate & Superior blues on the lot. I know the loaded slate blue lux with off road suspension that was supposed to be mine should be in any day now

HummerNewbie,

The H3 is actually for my wife who has always been a "truck girl". Her 97 Toyota Tacoma Kingcab TRD is getting a little worn down and with the hopeful adition of a baby in the near future we need something that will be child seat friendly. Almost bought a loaded Nissan Murano for her this last weekend until she finally told me how she really fealt about it minutes form signing, (said she fealt like she was driving a school bus/minivan) and that she wanted a new truck instead. Well thankfully she spied a new H3 on that drive home and she instantly fell in love with it. I went to the dealership alone a night ago and was very impressed with the inside and the way I fealt sitting in it. Didnt get to test drive it as it was pouring rain but we plan on going tomorrow night to test drive it together. I faxed my salesman the GMID info so he should have an answer for me tomorrow.

As for what we are looking for? Well it is her vehicle so the color is up to her, she loves the Superior Blue (figures she would want the only color that is hard to find) and she demands that it have a sunroof and be an automatic. Other than that I am pushing for leather interior with the heated seats which would mena a luxury model. We are form the Seattle area and plan to move back there in a year and a half so the heated seats are worth it to us. If I have any say in it we will get the Slate blue or Dark silver (not sure what it's name is), and I can totally go for any other color as long as it's not white. But again it is really up to her. I will keep everybody posted and if everything goes as planned we should have a new H3 this weekend either form my local dealer or the Orlando dealer, well that is if I get a GMID# and the Orlando dealer accepts it.

I know they have several of both blues sitting on the lot and in the showroom right now with varying options. I don't believe that either of the blues on the showroom floor had sunroof but it was raining here also, so I didn't look on the lot. I would definitely get the sunroof. They do have a lot of units to choose from.

Long story short on the one I ordered? Well, put the deposit down on March 18th, finally saw one in mid-June and was even more in love with them. They started producing the blues late June and I was all ready to take delivery. I have no idea why so many people have taken delivery of their blue ones and mine has taken until now to come in when I was one of the first 10 people to put down a deposit at the Orlando dealership A few weeks ago a business opportunity came up that I couldn't pass on and I had to use my H3 money for it Should be able to recoup it by Dec. or Jan. so plan on getting one then. You know what they say, good things come to those that wait. Hope they are right. Anything I can do to help you out with the Orlando dealer, just let me know.

The GMID authorization numbers I have given out in the past few months started with either 311 or lately 312; and I know they work as GMID since I have been told that they work. The numbers referenced in your messaage is either incorrect, or out-of-date.

Fstop,

Go a quick question for you. I got a GMID authorization number back around July 4th but now that I have to push out my delivery it might expire before I take delivery. Does GM frown on this and not authorize another number for somebody? Just curious and hope this isn't the case.

HummerNewbie,

please give me the name of your Salesman in Orlando. We test drove the H3 last night and oh boy is it cool. My wife loved it so much she wanted to work a deal right then and there. The dealer is still in the process of setting up an new dealership on the other side of town so when we got there they were not ready to start dealing until the next morning which is today. We are going back to try to work a deal and inquire about the GMID program but like I said earlier if they do not accept it I will be going to orlando. Thanks.
