Coolest Canadian Ever
You've got to admit, this is one cool cat that doesn't stay in hotels, eat store bought food, or have a team of cameramen following and helping him while he's "surviving".
Bear brings teh suk.
One cool Canuk

Re: Coolest Canadian Ever
Both shows kick arse but when Bear finds his lunch ie: snake, lizzard, bug, etc. then tells you how lucky he is to find that morsel of food ... looks into the camera, pops it in his mouth and then proceeds to tell you exactly what it tastes like, there is no better TV than that!

Re: Coolest Canadian Ever
I like Bear alot more. But only for one reason, when Bear is presented with an obstacle or challenge he just deals with it and doesn't bitch. All I ever hear out of survivormans mouth it; oh this is bad, oh this is a really bad situation, I'm so cold, this is so dangerous.

That's because Bear has people with him carrying the equipment, taking him to McDonald's, and to the local Motel 6.

Re: Coolest Canadian Ever
I have watched a handful of his shows. To me though, it seems that stuff is in place, where normally it might not have been. Like the washed up boat in one episode, or the remains of a parachute in another. All in all though, great show!

I lived in the mountains of NC for almost two months, surviving with nothing but he crap on my backn and hiked a couple of 14K peaks, along with a looong host of other experiences in the back country.
I dealt with bears in my camp on a nightly basis, with no shoes or pants to put on at night, let alone bear spray, or god forbid a gun. I dont know that I could have gotten my shoes on before a real confrontation with a bear, but it would have given me a hell of a better chance of getting through and encounter then not having them.
I cant hold any ill will against someone that is able to live off the land 100%, but I came damn close, in my eyes surviveorman is too dramatic. Bear has free-climbed down cliffs that survivorman would not climb down in a wet dream, and he never bitched once.

Re: Coolest Canadian Ever
I'm not going to argue with you when the shows are so different from a production stand point. One man filming everything and living entirely off the land vs one man plus a production crew staying in hotels and feasting on the buffet.
Bear doesn't have to worry as much about injury as Les since Bear has so many people with him while Les is alone.
Black bears love the hills of NC and VA, but you must have climbed 14k peaks somewhere else. Good for you, because I'd be cussing the whole way up. Live off the land for 2 months, F that. I'm with Bear, where's the Westin.
JMS, the premise behind Les's shows are that he's doing a normal activity, but gets lost or has a problem. He "lost" a motor in the boat episode, once "crashed" a plane in the Canadian tundra, "lost" his way while dog sledding, etc...
Anyway, the title of the thread is " Coolest Canadian" and I don't think Bear is Canadian.
Hey Carey, did you climb Mt Mitchell near Asheville? We haven't climbed it, but have stayed nearby several times. Old Hiker has climbed it. Where were you in NC?

Nope - not Canadian - British - and we invented surviving in hotels.
If I had to choose one of their jobs - lets see - spending a week floating around in a liferaft drinking my own urine and treating developing sores or parachuting in James Bond style, running down a few scree slopes, climbing a tree or two topped of with a nice G&T at the bar with the chaps at the end of the day.
Tough choice.
