Radio Automatic Volume Control Feature Inoperative (Rewire Noise Cancellation Microphone) #03-08-44-004 - (02/04/2003)
Radio Automatic Volume Control Feature Inoperative (Rewire Noise Cancellation Microphone)
2003 HUMMER H2

Condition
Some customers may comment that the Automatic Volume Control feature of the radio is not working.

Cause
The wires to the noise cancellation microphone may be installed in the incorrect cavities at the audio amplifier module.

Correction
Install the noise cancellation microphone wires into the correct cavities at the audio amplifier module using the following procedure:

Remove the center console in order to gain access to the audio amplifier module. Refer to the Console Replacement procedure in SI (Document ID #834656).
Disconnect connector 1 (Light Gray, 24 way) from the audio amplifier.
Locate the two wires (circuit 1354, Light Green/Black and circuit 1488, Dark Green) in the connector for the noise cancellation microphone. They are in cavities B1 and B2 of the connector.
Remove the two wires from the connector and reinstall them into the opposite cavity from where they were originally. The Light Green/Black (circuit 1354) wire should now be installed in cavity B1. The Dark Green (circuit 1488) wire should now be installed in cavity B2.
Reconnect connector 1 to the audio amplifier module.
Install the center console. Refer to the Console Replacement procedure in SI (Document ID #834656).
Verify the operation of the noise cancellation microphone and the Automatic Control Feature of the Entertainment System.
If the Automatic Volume Control is still inoperative, refer to the Diagnostic Starting Point-Entertainment (Document ID #684715) for further diagnosis.
