Belt Noise

Had a what started as a cherp turn to a squeal coming from the belt area. I sprayed some wd40 on the ideler pulley and the noise went away. i replaced the idler pulley noise still there. I realized the noise went away cause wd got on belt, I replaced the belt and tensioner pulley, no help. Put belt spray on the inside of the belt noise got worse! any idea's??

My 2003 had a chirping noise and before I replaced the belt (caution, danger ahead) I used a file on the sides of the belt while the motor was running and the noise would go away for a while. Did this for a couple years. Just didn't want to screw with it at the time. Not even sure why it was working

When I figured that one day I was going to eat that file (honey, can you call 911, I got a file stuck in my eye) if I didn't go ahead and replace it and bought both belts. Before putting them on I took a Scotch Bright pad to the smooth pulleys that the back side of the belt rode against to clean any rust or debris off them. Then I used a wire brush on the rest of the pulleys to clean out the grooves.

This is just what was happening to mine and do not know if it could be your current problem with the new belt.

You did change the tensioner and idler so that should take them out of the picture. Might look at the fan pulley if you haven't already. May want to also take a wire brush to the other pulleys.

WD 40 may take sometime to come off the belt unless you take it off and clean it off the best ya can.

NEVER, NEVER use that belt dressing crap! It is just spray adheisive! All it does is destroy the belt, so you have to buy a new one, and cleaning the residue off the pulleys, engine, and everywhere else it went is a real PITA. A new belt is the only solution.

Take the belt off and see if the idler pully and tensioner are good ,replace if bad and use a Goodyear Gatorback belt . Never use WD40 for anything .

WTH were you thinking? WD-40???

Anyway, certain belts will do that. I tried one of those gator belts and it SQUEEEEEELED bad.

Just try a new belt... unless you have a tensioner going out, it's probably just a crappy belt.

you might want to try and use some simple green on your pullies and a brush to clean them. Or use some carb cleaner. Bottom line is you need to get that wd40 off of the whole belt system before you replace the belt.

THE bearings in the idler pully goes bad ,I buy a new one for $2.50 and press out the old one and press in the new one .A lot cheaper than new pullys .
