Default H3 Towing Stuff

What have you found to pull and what issues have you had?
Here are my two. The enclosed trailer weighs 3500 pounds. I don't want to know the mileage I get with that!

The Whaler is about 1500. I averaged 15mpg driving down to Biloxi from Arkansas back when I only had 2500 miles on the H3. It did not like cruise control and D3 was eating up gas and high rpm so I used the foot method. In cruise when it felt like it was slowing it hammered down to passing gear and really was annoying. Now I have done some mods and it is a lot better.

Nice tow/photo studies in black and white. What mods do you recommend for high end weight towing? 4500lb is total rig payload limit...

I know this is off topic, but does your right side have wheel flares and your left side doesn't?
I like the look, white looks its best with dark tinted windows..

I found the engine mods in my signature greatly helped all the down shifting. I think it shows more proof I have increased HP & torque. Im hoping a PCM program can smooth the shift points out some more. I have been in contact with Alvin at PCM for less. They are enjoying holidays right now. The 3500 trailer just about has to be towed in D3 around here. It has a huge air compressor that sticks out in that bulge on top and a 15,000 kw generator and all kinds of boat repair equipment and supplies. I weighed it at a CAT scale. I have added several mods that have also increased the H3 weight. Im going down to weigh that now.

Hey, where'd ya get the flares? Do they help with the mud all over the side of the truck!? (big design flaw, you shouldn't have to add stuff to your vehicle to keep the entire side of it from collecting mud)

I tow a our boat. It's close to 3000lbs, more with gear and full of fuel. You're absolutely right, it's adequate, but it really really needs the V8. I'd like to see the 4800. In my experience, it performs fine and gets better mileage than the 5.3. Our 6.0 in our Denali gets better mileage than our 5.3 did!!!!

Its these. I still get some spray. I have not ripped one off yet. Im wondering if they would replace just one piece. They are nice when you dont want to get road spray all week but I left them on wheeling and it helps a lot.

Here's my towing toy...
At 775, you don't even know it's there. I hope no one hits it because they're impatient waiting for a turn.

They look like just the trick! Easy installation? Cost?

I'll call 'em tomorrow.

Since you run in snow a lot I was wondering if you have experimented with tire pressures. Like 22 lbs err what?

No I have never altered from the stock tires pressure. Probably should try though.
As far as trailer, my snowcat trailer is all alluminum and only weighs about 500 lbs, (gotta love alluminum) so even with 2 sleds on board (600 lbs each), I am only pulling less then 2000 lbs. Now it pulls that pretty nice, in fact with one sled , I barley notice it, but I still use D3 because I think it is much better to run at a little higher rpm all the time, instead of shifting aound too much.

About 3 weeks ago, I pulled my haul trailer full of wood - it's 16'x7' and I stacked the wood ~2' high. It was about 1.5-2 cords of very wet wood. We estimated it around 6k pounds total wood & trailer (way over rated, but I was pretty careful). I pulled it 35 miles on winding country road (40 mph) and then another 60 miles on highway (60-70). Left it in 3rd gear the whole time and was very surprised at how well it towed - it wasn't a rocket at all, but handled hills well (downshifting) and had no issues.

note: I wouldn't recommend towing over rated weight. It's hard on the vehicle and very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I've been towing small & large loads for years and feel pretty comfortable. Even so, I was extra careful because of the weight.
