Does anyone know how to quiet the hood? Will hood snubbers work?

Buck,

Just use foam at the contact points that'll save a lot of money.

OK, I'm the only one here so until someone else arrives I will continue to talk to myself.

Please allow myself to introduce myself.

If it is the hood thats making the noise it could be the snubbers, the latches, or the hood could be loose. If its not the hood then check to see if you have a loose body mount.

Check the HML archives, theres alot of info in there.

What do you mean by a loose bodymount? I believe the rattle comes from the top of the hood (drivers side)at the contact point. I was going to try to add foam to see if that gets rid of it.

Actually this morning it was driving me nuts so I stopped, stuffed some foam under the drivers side contact point and it stopped. I'll do something more permanent in the future.

H1s suck. They can't even make a hood that doesn't rattle. What a POS. Waste of money. Little dick mobile...

Buckeye,

Lets feed Argo:

Make sure that the center bump stop is not loose. I've heard this can be a major source of noise. Also I have found that the order in which I engage the hood lock from inside and the latches on the outside has some to do with rattling. (might be my imagination) Clean all three stops off and apply a liberal coating of white lithium grease to each, lastly apply a little spray silicone on the hood latches.

I think the snubbers are a great idea and have contemplated ordering a set. But, I have also heard (humvee.net/HML) that the play in the hood was intentional to relieve stress on the hinges, and that the snubbers can actually over time cause cracks in the hood up around the hinges. (again have only heard)

I'm sure you've heard some/all of this - but fwiw - the trolls are hungry

JSA, I placed foam pads at all 3 contact points and ALL THE RATTLING STOPPED! My Hummer tech said the hood latches are too loose so he ordered a new set. It's funny because they (Hummer) said that my hood being too loose was the culprit to two cracks I have had in the hood and it needed to be tightened up. Currently they are shipping me a new hood under warranty. The first crack was repaired.

Great to know, I actually have a couple of hairline cracks (hopefully just in the paint) around the right most vertical grill opening - - - My hummer tech could not give me any thoughts on the SMA snubbers, did yours offer any?

First, there is no such thing as a crack in the paint. If you see a crack that means the fiberglass is cracked too. To repair they have to put support behind it or it will continue to crack. They did this for me once.

I would NOT waste your money on snubbers. Get some heavy foam inserts and place them on all 3 contact points till the hood no longer rattles (the rattling bugged me so much I took my camera case and cut some foam pieces out of it and placed them on the contact points--rattling gone). Again, my guy said it cracked because the hood was loose not tight. He is kind of a Hummer guru, races for them etc.

Uh oh - - I guess I have my first warranty item. I'll definitely give the foam a try.

Thanks again

That hair line crack in your hood happens to all of them.
