Default Need new engine

After 280,000 miles my motor took a dump.
I let my son use it to take to his last day of school and at some point it lost all oil pressure with out him ever knowing or hearing any of the knocking and ticking.
Him having the stereo blasting to his crappy boom boom crap probably the reason why.
Any how. I love my h2 and could never replace it with anything comparable.
Its broke can't trade it in any way.
Any opinions on new 6.0 for it ?
New factory 6.0 w/ 6yr 100k war. = 7k installed
Re man w/3yr 30k war. 5.5k installed
used junk yard w/ 66k on it, 2k plus the install.
I'm leaning toward chevy doing the new motor due to the warranty since I could never replace this and will more than likely keep it forever.
Do I need my head examined for spending 7k on a 04 H2 to get new w/ 100k 6yr warranty ????

If it were me, I'd go new motor for $7,000.

...but at 280,000 I'd have someone check the whole truck over (body mounts, suspension, hubs, etc., etc.) before making the final decision. If you find other things that need work, then re-evaluate. If you've got a couple grand of 'other' work that should be done, then maybe the re-man route is the way to go.

I guess it all depends on how much you're willing/can afford to spend at this point.

SIDE NOTE: Bravo for hitting 280K!

Chris,
As anther H2 owner fromt he southern area (Ocean Springs, MS), I would agree with Guru (but then again when dont I agree with him).

I think if you plan to keep it... go for it.
Personally I would look at the duramax conversions, but then again the drop in that tank is HUGE! (30k!?!?!?!)

What I would do... especially since I have though about this since I am near the 140k mark on my '03 ... would be to put a bigger badder engine in there. Why not go with a stroker 383 and supercharge it.... Should be better gas mileage, but I would suggest a upgrade on the trans. Then again you can buy a new L series iron block engine and work it from there (but with the increase power you will again want to work the tranny).

I would look over the items on your suspension/drivetrain too.
I mean you never know what needs to be worked on.

I never plan on getting rid of mine, but I know I would like more grunt while not giving up the off road ability.
I heard replacing the 4 speed for a 6 speed is something to do, but it is a night mare.

BTW is that a 6 inch fabtech lift? It sweet, dont think i could go that high, but still sweet.....

and if that a TV receiver dish on the roof?

I would be tempted to just buy a stock replacement engine. Keep everything stock as far as the drivetrain is concerned. You can always SC these iron blocks if you wanted to go that route.

I never plan on getting rid of mine either but I wouldn't want to sacrifice drivability by going with different engines and what not. Not to mention the hassle with emissions depending on your state. In AZ they are strict as hell.

the 7k options sounds good to me . mine its a 04 also but im only at 160K and when ever mine goes out ill be ok with that price range and the 6yr 100k miles war . by the way my wife just told me ill probably be willing to sell her and the kids for 7k just to keep the 2 runing

so you can count me in on the " Do I need my head examined for spending 7k on a 04 H2 to get new w/ 100k 6yr warranty ????" group lol ..
