Default 4L80e Tranny swap in an 03 H2

so, i have been noticing my tranny has been starting to slip a little recently, as well as some minor power loss at HW speed (70mph) when i stomp the gas to pass someone, i will get about 1/2 a sec of power loss.

so, im looking at preparing for the tranny to give out, and what the best options would be.

right now, the 4L65e tranny i dont think is a smart choice for our H2.
even if it is rebuilt to handle more HP, the cost of the rebuild would still rival the cost of just replacing it with a 4L80e. then you have the fact that the 4L65e is only a 4 spd and the 4L80e is a 6 spd... so the MPG should/will increase with the 6 spd.

so has anyone done this swap to the 6.0L engine in the H2?
what modifications were done to make it fit.. or was it a direct bolt?

how much did this project cost?
any computer/electrical issues?

thanks

Their site isn't much to look at, but these dudes got back to be with a ridiculous amount of information about a 65 to 80 swap.

Check them out: www.transmissioncenter.net

I agree with you on a 4L80 swap and am very interested myself for the near future.
But a 4L80 is a 4 speed trans. (4 stands for 4 speed, L for longitinutal and 80 for 80% duty)

you are correct...

for some reason i was thinking that the 2008+ H2's ahd the 4L80 in them, but actually they have the 6L80.

that is what i was essentially thinking. getting a tranny from a newer H2 and throwing it in my 03.

i just want the 6sp for the extra MPG and ability to take more HP. i dont plan on doing a SC/TC or anything like that. mostly bolt on stuff.. but when this engine finally goes, would like to throw a big block in there and have it connect to the drivetrain without any serious issues. big block as in a 427 or a 454... atleast i will have an excuse for ****ty MPG after that

You will spend atleast double what a 4l80 will run you to get that 6 speed tranny in the truck and functioning correctly. Its completely different clutch design. There is all kinds of extra **** needed beyond what a 4l80 requires to operate. The 4l80 is just a drop in. 4l80 gearing is comparable to gears 2,3,5,6 in the 6-speed. 4l80 has a taller final gear to.

And it's electronically controlled so the computer would need to be modified/flashed/upgraded.
