Warranty repair question
My check engine light came on today when I started the truck. Drove it down the block and it seemed it had about half the power when I pressed the accelerator. Turned it around and put it back in the garage. The check engine light is solid on, not flashing.
My dilemma is whether to tow it or drive it to the nearest Hummer dealer. Closest dealer is 153 miles away. I talked to the Hummer dealer and they say "drive it", but the distance worries me. I asked them if the local GMC truck dealer could perform warranty work and gave an emphatic "NO", which I find ridiculous...
Tow it, drive it, or diagnose and fix myself(If i were a betting man I'd say O2 sensor)?

Re: Warranty repair question
got onstar? if so, blue-button them and find out what the DTC('code') is and call dealer-maybe something simple.

Do not have Onstar, but am thinking I may want to sign up for just that feature.
UPDATE: Called the local GMC dealer with whom I have a good relationship. They say, yes, they can perform warranty work on Hummers and have successfully done so in the past. So I schedule an appt and head on down the road.
And then...the check engine light goes off and truck returns to driving as normal. So, moot point now, but very odd. have started it and turned it off a few times now and the light is not coming back on. Strange.

Re: Warranty repair question
Did you check your gas cap? We had the same thing and it was a bad cap.

Re: Warranty repair question
I did check the cap. Seems to be working. It's a GM locking gas cap, not an aftermarket one. Looked it over pretty good and didn't see anything obvious wrong with it.

Re: Warranty repair question
Typically only hummer dealer are supposed to do any warranty repairs due to the extra training and hummer specific tools required for some repairs. In many situations any gm dealer can perform these repairs but in Canada(not sure about the US) the repair needs to be subletted through a hummer dealer and most non hummer dealers dont want to deal with another dealer with a sublet repair. GM normally will require it to go to a hummer dealer as long as the truck is not broken down. Sucks for hummer owners for sure. Im not fully versed on the policies as i just fix them, but that is about the extent of it as i understand

Re: Warranty repair question
Interesting. Makes sense due to training and tools and the huge investment the dealer makes. I wish the middle of KS had a Hummer dealer, but no such luck. I wonder if my local GMC dealer is able to service them and do some warranty work due to the distance factor?
The truck is running great now, CEL has not come back on and it drives as it should. Gotta love modern electronics... Put 70 miles on it this morning and it ran beautifully.

Re: Warranty repair question
I take mine to my local GMC dealer here in Sarasota. They will perform warranty work no problem. They work on quite a few. My Hummer dealer is 60 + miles away. Never had any problem with the repairs either.

Re: Warranty repair question
An update. I took it in for service at the dealer and they ran the codes and replaced the ignition under warranty. Runs like a champ now.

Re: Warranty repair question
interesting....same thing happened to me the other day in my 06 H2.. check engine light came on and stayed on...took it to the dealer, ran the codes, and came back as bad evap sensor, but they also replaced my ignition under warranty. Unlike you, I felt no loss of power and didnt notice any driveability issues.....weird
