Default Pic of pass. side front axle !!

I need a pic of your front axle on the pass. side of an 03 hummer h2. I just got a new cv joint put in at the local dealership last week and today I was just backing out of the driveway and I heard poping from the pass. side front again( i only drove it 10 miles home from the dealership). I looked under the rig and the cv joint looks good but I noticed that I could see about 3" of the axle shaft coming out of the axle housing. I will post a pic in the morning when I get to work. I'm sure the dealership will not cover it becouse I got my own cv joint instead of paying $890 for the one they had. Any ideas what I should do.

Thanks for the pics!! my brother stoped by and used a tire tool to push the flange back into the carrier. We also noticed the the cv replacement was missing a bolt. We took it for a spin and the flange moved out of the carrier again. I'm going to call and see if the dealership will make it good. You never know unless you ask right!!Remember I only drove it 10 or so miles after fixed they fixed the cv joint.

I am some what lost here so....

Is it item number 1 that you had to move back into the carrier ? If you did I would say that the "c-clip" is not holding the "inner axle" in the housing/carrier

Just trying to understand what is wrong here and maybe be get you some more help as to what you need to do.

Ed

you are right!! My brother said the same thing(the c-clip not holding). It was not like that before the dealership changed out my cv joint. How sould I go about explaining this to them?? I sure hope they see it the same way that I do.

why would this have fallen off or been removed during a half shft replacement?

maybe i have been doing mine wrong, but all i had to do was remove the compression bolt for the half shaft on the Hub and then remove the 6 or so bolts from the flange. pull old HS off and reverse to put the new one on.......

little tricky with tires on, but is possible... i think i removed the shock to help out.. still easy.. think i had it swapped out within 45 mins

Agree, I am wondering if this was a problem before half shaft work was done and not noticed maybe

I'm sure the dealership would have seen the axle sticking out of the carrier. I'll try and post a pic.

Just took the rig to my brothers shop to fix the c-clip on the front axle. I told him that it feels like the front and rear end are locked. When turning sharp the rear tires bark as much as the front. Maybe the guy that had it before me put in all time locker rear end. I have no clue but I will let you know what my brother finds out.

After taking the rear end cover off it looks like someone instaled a posi traction rear end in the place of my stock limited slip. As for the front the C-clip was missing from the inter axle. Thats all I know at this time.

The only way that axle loose it clip is if someone hammerd on that flange when the CV was out. If you get carless under the truck when swapping a CV I can see this happening. I would take it back and tell them to fix it.

BTW this is going to be a major fix as they will have to pull the fron Diff out of the truck and split it open to get the old clip out.

On your rear diff. The H2 does not have any limited slip diffs. It comes factory with an electronic locking rear differential. This acts as an open diff untill you activate the locker on the dash. I cannot imagine why anyone would pull the locker out of the H2 and put a limited slip in it. Unless they jip'd you and took the locker out to use on antoher truck and gave you a standard issue limited slip.

Also it looks like you bought a GSP CV Shaft (they come in a blue box). If you ever plan on offroading that truck i would recommend you purchase eighter napa brand reman shafts $100 or fenco reman shafts $59. The gsp shafts are total junk. I have broken 6 of them in 3 years of offroading. Good thing they have a lifetime warranty.
