Yellow Hummer H2 Hit and Run Chicago

Evanston, IL- The Evanston Police Department is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the driver of a yellow HUMMER H2 who struck and seriously injured a bicyclist.

The driver of a yellow HUMMER H2 struck a Northwestern University student at approximately 9:24 a.m. Feb. 16 at the intersection of Lake St. and Sherman Ave. in Evanston.

Upon impact, the bicyclist was thrown from her bicycle and landed on the ground. Currently, the bicyclist is hospitalized in an Evanston hospital and is reported to be in fair condition recovering from fractures of her leg, pelvis, jaw and palate.

Witness accounts, at the time of this reported incident, provided police with the make, model and color of the striking vehicle. No description of the driver or license plate information was available. In order to further its investigation, the Evanston Police Department Traffic Bureau has requested the office of the Secretary of State to provide a listing of registered yellow HUMMER H2’s. While awaiting a response from the Secretary of State, the Traffic Bureau will continue to canvas of the area in search of other witnesses.

The Evanston Police Department is requesting that any citizen with information, that they believe will lead to the identification of the driver or the yellow HUMMER H2, are asked to call the department at (847) 866-5000.

An intersection accident, sounds like the cyclist was not following the rules of the road and disobeying traffic signals and right way laws( Like most cyclists do) Unless the Hummer blew through a red light when the cyclist had a green light, then the hummer would be at fault. Living in Chicago I have seen first hand how many dipsh*ts think that when they riding a bike that they are pedestrians ie; riding on the sidewalk, disobeying traffic signals, and riding against traffic.

FYI If you are a L.E.O. and the incident happened Feb 16 you might as well have throw it into a cold case file on Feb 18 if you don't find the Perp in the first 48 hrs on a hit and run you probably are just spinning your wheels, and if the Perp is on this site you have just let him know that the coast is not clear and to lay low for awhile more, allowing the case to grow colder and witinesses memories to fade over time.

Of course, maybe the Hummer driver didn't even realize it happened. I know a certain female that backed into a Honda and didn't know it until she heard the crunching of the fender and hood.

I really pisses me off when these people on bikes ride in the road and don't move over for you. I understand that we are supposed to share the road with them but why, they don't pay for registration or insurance, I do, there for stay on the sidewalk Sorry just had to vent

In most places it is unlawful for a bicycle to be on the sidewalk. What pisses me off is I rarely see a bicyclist obeying the rules of the road. They blow through stop signs and fail to yield. It is as if they dont realize they are subject to the same laws as a vehicle. I say the Hummer did not know he hit the bike and the bike had broken the law. Only way to explain why the Hummer did not stop and render aid. I mean, come on. A yellow Hummer? How hard will that be to track down?

If it is the biker's fault then why are the police looking for the Hummer? The assumption that the biker didn't follow "the rules of the road" is unfounded, an early birthday present from your fat, caffeinated ego.

Your bottom line may be that you and your tonka truck rules the road, but if it were your daughter, sister, mother, friend hit by a speeding yellow hummer you would suffer the epiphany that your tail-chasing cerebrum denies you.

I would probably bet that the police are looking for the hummer because the person left the scene of an accident. The news report you posted above did not mention who was at fault. Police will use list to find Hummer’s mystery driver

Evanston Police Department officials received a list of registered Hummer H2’s in Illinois within the last week to aid the search for the driver of the yellow Hummer that struck a Weinberg senior in February.

“We’re looking at that information and trying to put it into usable form,” said Deputy Chief Joe Bellino of EPD. “It’s quite extensive.”

Bellino declined to say how many vehicles were on the list, which was compiled by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.

An unidentified driver ran a stop sign at the Lake Street and Sherman Avenue on Feb. 16 and struck the bicyclist. The driver then drove away. There is no description of the driver.

The student suffered fractures to her leg, jaw, pelvic area and face, and she will undergo three months of physical therapy before walking again.

The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation held an event at the accident’s scene Feb. 24. EPD Chief Frank Kaminski and Evanston Bicycle Club President Neal Ney were among the speakers at the event, which promoted a Chicagoland Bicycle Federation campaign meant to curb aggressive driving.
