Is there a Vette in your Garage?
I did something fun this weekend that might interest some of you, my wife and I took our Chevy Cobalt out to an SCCA autocross event. It cost us $35 to race it six times. There was everything from go-carts to IRL cars. The Super Stock class was full of Porsche's and Vettes, and even a few exotics were out for a turn or two. The way I understand it, you can usually find a race any Sunday in your local metropolitan areas. Either with the SCCA or a more local affiliated group. This Link is a video of my wife's final run of the day. They do this stuff rain or shine!

The race next weekend is at Texas Motor Speedway. See the SCCA web site for rules.

Re: Is there a Vette in your Garage?
I used to participate in the SCCA events when i lived in Dallas.
The Vette I used is in my sig pic.
If I had to pick the one thing I miss about living in Texas it is the racing. I really miss it.
Current Vette is this one 71 LS5, auto, air coupe)

That looks like a fun project! Equipe Rapide is the local group we were hanging out with Sunday. I numbered up the Hummer for some pictures early in the day. I got a few laughs out of it

Re: Is there a Vette in your Garage?
I have a 99 Fixed roof coupe FRC (hardtop)..grandpa to the z06. Z51, 6speed, 3.42. These are sort or rare as most are coupes and convertibles. FRC's are lighter and stiffer due to the fixed roof. I do SCCA autcross, but roadracing is the real deal!
I try to go to road Atlanta at least 6 times a year. its much more epensve than Auto-x. Its about $300.00/day, but you get 4 30 minute sessions in traffic, on a real road course. I hit speeds of about 135 or so. You sign your life away and no insurance will cover you out there!
Auto X is fun and cheap and I hit them as fillers between track days. They are low risk as its mostly done in parking lots and if you spin out, you hit a cone, no another car or a wall!
here is me (black) behind a new Z06 (yellow)....

Re: Is there a Vette in your Garage?
FRC's have a trunk and a short roofline....
Coupes have a hatchback/removable Targa top...
And convertables are for girls!!!!

Re: Is there a Vette in your Garage?
You can pick up a nice C5 for around 22K and roast 99% of anything out there (stock vs stock). These cars Include: Most Naturally aspirated Porches, All bimmers execpt new M5/M6, All Audis (maybe an rs4 would win, but I've never seen one at the track), most 90's Ferraris, Lotuses, older lambos, Austin Martin Vantage, 99.9% of all benzes, Impreza WRX STI, Lancer Evo, etc. Basically it will take down anything from 20K-60K for current sportscar prices. Stock mine dynos at 325RWHP/326 RWTQ and weighs 3180LBS.
And, if you really want to piss off some rich guys and you are sort of rich, get a new Z06 for 70K and destroy everything up to $250K. Yes Ford GT, Ferrari F430, Porche GT3 GT4, etc. I know what the magazines, dynos, etc say. I have seen/done all of the above at road atlanta over and over again. Vettes own the track. Tourque out of turns=Win!!!
I hang with new Z06 in the turns, but they roast exiting the turn and on the straight, just leaving me in the dust!
