Another Hate Crime

BALTIMORE (Map, News) - As Sarah Kreager, 26, tried to sit down on a Baltimore City bus Tuesday, police say, a middle-schooler told her she couldn’t. When she attempted to take another seat, a middle-schooler wouldn’t let her. Finally, according to police, Kreager just sat down.

She was “immediately attacked” by nine students — three females and six males — from Robert Poole Middle School. They punched and kicked her at 2:59 p.m. at the intersection of 33rd Street and Chestnut Avenue, according to Maryland Transit Administration police.

Kreager was dragged off the bus and her boyfriend, Troy Ennis, attempted to get her back on, police said.

She sustained “serious injuries” and had to be transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to a police report.

Kreager suffered two broken bones in her left eye socket, police said.

“She had eye muscles that were damaged,” a police report states. “She had deep lacerations on the top of her head and another above her neck.”

Two seats and the bus’ rear glass were destroyed during the attack, police said.

The bus driver on the No. 27 line quickly called police, who responded and arrested the nine juveniles, said Jawauna Greene, an MTA police spokeswoman.

All nine suspects, ages 14 and 15, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Their bus tickets — provided by the school — have been revoked, Greene said.

“Riding the bus is a privilege,” she said. “Public safety is our primary concern.”

Greene said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and she didn’t know whether the attack had anything to do with the victim’s race.

The suspects in the incident are black. The victim is white, according to the police report.

Baltimore resident David Briggs, who lives near the crime scene, said the incident underscores Baltimore’s pervasive crime.

“Now, I can't even ride the bus,” he said.

Just sickening. You don't want to paint them all with one brush and I try hard not too. (They make you try hard because it would be real easy to just paint them all as violent beasts.) This poor woman taking a stand and sitting down. Where is our civil rights. I feel the Republicans are becoming second class citizens to the liberals. We are all killing he earth, gun crazy, racist, and homophobic. They are all peace, love and green. Until you go against them. Then they attack you like a Sex Panther. With a fury like no other. Incidents like this happen every day, all over America, and largely without ever being looked at or listed as a hate crime. If it had been six white kids doing that to a black women you can bet your ass its a hate crime.

Imagine how the parents of the offenders would be scrutinized by the general public and media for their apparent lack of parenting skills. Is the parenting (or lack there of) of black kids/young adults ever taken in to consideration when they commit these crimes? Yes. Yes it is. It is taken in to consideration when the charges reach court, where the defendents public defender will use it as a crutch in a feeble attempt to get the accused off of their charges.

It seems these days that racism from blacks is more and more acceptable. Personally, I believe in equality. TRUE EQUALITY. These types of crimes and the way they are handled is not equality.

The problem is even though you take it into consideration, it can not be used as an excuse for leniency. Then you are letting a person who still has the same issues back on the street. I do not know how to fix the system but look at the kid in Nebraska with the mental problems. They had been getting him help for 4+ years. He was just broke. Nothing was going to fix him. What do you do there? Let him go and hope for the best? That is what they did.

On the otherhand, millions of mental people run the streets and get released from the hospitals and don't do what that kid did. It is just life.

In the case of uneducated, un parented, un moraled kids that do these crimes, If there parents will not do anything what can we as a society do? 75% do not want anyones help or to change. You give them money, they blow it. (Ala Rodney King) You give them free college, they don't want it, even high school they do not want. It starts and end with morals. Responsibility. Self Worth. With out it, you have animals. Of ALL races. Whites Mexicans blacks, etc. All walks of life. Rich and poor. It's life. They were complaining about the same crap before we were here and they will be when we are gone.

My issue is the rate at which it is growing. Crime continues to go up. Violence is at a rate my city has never seen before (D/FW) and it is not all blacks. (Its not all whites either). The southern section is sending us some real first class citizens.

wow, i am impressed....well thought out, stated and not targeted at any one race.....all races have their scum (for lack of a better word)....the blame is entirely on the individual...there are thousands of success stories of people who started in the worst possible enviroment and achieved great things...there are thousands of stories of people who started with everything and commits horrible atrocities.....we are all responsible for our own destiny....

I would be a charter member of Criminal targeted KKK. I truly have no problem with blacks. I have and might (in my older days) want to adopt a black child and give them a life that they probably would not have gotten. But even in that, something inside of people either give them a conscience or compassion for fellow man. It is there or it isn't. No wonderful parent can change that. You lead by example and hope that they follow. Just no making excuses for the ones who don't. No matter what the circumstance. You know what you like and what you don't. If you do not like a gun in your face or a bullet in the gut, you can bet your victim would not either. (When I say criminal, it is limited to the violent offenders and suppliers of drugs) I know being poor is hard and not knowing about tomorrow is like. My mom was in the hospital pretty much for 5 years when I was 9-14. My house burnt down 11 months after and we lost everything (Arson). My dad remariied 1 month later and moved away leaving my sister and I to live with friends and finish school on our own. It took me 7 years to get my bachelors because I would go 1 semester and take one off to pay for the next semester. I had a desire to pass to play football and baseball. 5 people out of my whole graduating class of 120 went to college (65% Black and a really rough school) I stayed away from drugs in HS and College and I ran around with drug heads and my fraternity (Sigma Chi SWTSU) all smoked out and exed. I hung with them while they did it, I just told them give me a beer.

I am not the only one with a story. Even charmed life silver sppon in the mouth people have a story. It may be different but if they made something of themselves then they deserve the credit. Life is hard to win at. Crime is the lazy, easy way. I consider criminals lazy, no compassion or conscience until it is too late pieces of S. It just so happens, In the US, Blacks and Mexicans commit most of the violent crime. It is not against the race. I FNG Hate White Criminals too.

Speaking out on this one would likely not put any money into sharptons or jacksons pockets....so they wont say a peep....i'd be surprised if they did.

Okay, for once, I have to agree with you guys. What those kids did is despicable. But they did pay the ultimate price for their transgression: No Bus Privileges! WTF is that about? Since they are minors, their parents can be held accountable. Of course, good luck on collecting (bleeding a turnip). And, FWIW, I do hope that this gets prosecuted as a hate crime.
