[H2 TOIE]

I have gone on the rubicon a few times but with my jeep. How many days do you guys plan on to complete the trail? I would like to come along.

Drtyfn you won't be taking the H2 thru the little sluice but there is a bypass for that but even so it is a hard trail and you had better be prepared for body damage. there are some spots that are pretty narrow.

The first section of the road to miller lake was basically a rocky/dirt road, but from the lake to observation point was anything but that.

kdio we have always traveled from loon lake to tahoe and the trail after observation point while rocky is a lot easier than the rest of the trail was.

This was some good advice:

The Rubicon Trail is threatened with closure! We must do our part to ensure that no one has a reason to close our trail. But it is constantly under the microscope of governmental control agencies and environmental groups. It is also one of our crown jewels of recreation. We must use it right; or lose it. Here are some suggested guidelines for using the trail.

1. Stay on the trail. Never get off the trail. Do not camp some place where you have to make a new trail to get there.

2. Leave no trace. Air down; drive slow; and don't spin your tires where you don't need to. Stay on the rocks.

3. Follow the established route. Do not create a new route or bypass.

4. Be courteous of other drivers. Don't hold up the line and upset those behind you when you don't need to or have an alternative (such as getting out of the way).

5. Pick up trash you see along the trail.

6. Talk to other riders/drivers about their bad habits if you see some.

7. Never drive into or through wet areas or meadows. Stay on the trail that avoids these sensitive spots.

8. If your vehicle breaks down, try to limp it out of the way as soon as you can so as to not hold up those behind you. Every one is on a schedule these days. And no one likes to be held up. We all want to get as much fun in as we can in a short period of time. Be thoughtful.

9. Obey the law.

10. Don't drive over vegetaion or make mud holes worse.

11. Help a wheeler in need.

12. Have fun; be safe; but be smart about our future. Thanks , Del

One thing that I've noticed about off-roading is that the Hummer crowd seems to take things slow and steady, while the Jeep crowd will take the hardest route possible, just to do it, and bounce, claw and tear up the trail in the process. This is what I saw this weekend at Brown's Camp. Jeep after Jeep would approach an obstacle, and instead of straddling the hole, they would purposely put their tires into it, try to crawl out of it and then proceed to gun it, throwing dirt and rocks everywhere. I've also seen this in a few off-roading videos.

Bottom line: We've ALL got to stick together and take care of the trails. When you see someone tearing things up, going off trail, littering or not observing trail etiquette let them know. If they don't listen- report them.

Thanks folks for receiving the info well. I'm not a Hummer guy, I drive a 85 Toyota. As far as drivers of a certain brand behaving a certain way ..... come on, that's unfair, and a very hasty generalization. Anyway, thanks again for letting me add some value to your site. Also please guys, wear your seatbelt. We had a very unfortunate accident occure on the trail this past weekend. I have seen many people hurt, but never heard of a death on the rubicon.

EL DORADO COUNTY -- A 28-year-old Wilton man was killed early Saturday when he apparently lost control of his vehicle along rocky Rubicon Trail, an El Dorado County route popular among four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jim Faria said the accident occurred about 4:10 a.m. Saturday, just east of Loon Lake and Ice House Road.

Faria said the man, whose identity was withheld pending notification of family, was not wearing a seat belt when he was ejected from a Toyota pickup and the vehicle rolled over him.

A passenger in the vehicle, identified as an Elk Grove man, 32, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, Faria said.

no seriously that is a lotta dough to go wheel with! There are a lot of other trails around to get your feet wet with. The rubicon has got to be the highest profile trail out there, so we would all appreciate it if you do go that you do NOT make any bypasses and leave the trail as it was before you were on it.

For a fun run I would suggest coming in from the other side and camping at wentworth springs (nice quiet campground) then you can go as far as you can from there. It's a great trail, if you guys do go I'd love to come and help/guide!
