I've had my H3 for about 3 months now and I'm loving everything about! But if I did have a complaint, it would be the lack of hp/torque. I need a little more kick when merging on the freeway or overtaking Sunday drivers. I don't know much about fixing/upgrading/modifying vehicles except for the simple oil change. Other than that, I take it to the dealership or an authorized mechanic to work on my ride.

I was told that a solution to my little complaint was to install a cool air intake system. Naturally, I called the dealership and they quoted me a price of $350 for a K&N kit and then $200 to install. does that sound reasonable? I see that I can purchase one at a lower price but then I would have a problem of installing it. Can a person who has little knowledge of tweaking cars be able to install it myself? I would love any feedback from y'all.

I think I will try the Airaid brand after our H3 is ready.

Here is their website
http://www.airaid.com/200-180_hummer.asp

They also show companies that sell their products. The one I am going to order from is at:
http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=/egnsearch.asp&N=400029

The part is 200-180 for the air intake.

May put a new exhaust system on also.

Here's a stupid question: if I just buy the air filter, will that give me the little power that I'm looking for? Or, do i have to buy the whole kit, which includes the housing and the hose? I'm confused. Help me out.

On another topic, I just received the mudflaps that I ordered. Does anybody know if it's pretty easy to install? I know that there's some little drilling involved.

A K&N replacement filter would be great if they make them.

I installed the K&N filter (stock replacement) only (#E-0773) and it helped somewhat. I live in CA and was not sure if cold air intake mods are street legal. I'm happy with the filter change.

CARB regulations

K&N's statement

The K&N kit isn't legal in CA. They need to have it approved by CARB and that can take up to a year. Probably the same for the other kits also.

I've replaced the stock air filter with the K&N air filter and I'm glad that I did. I noticed the difference, even though it was a little, especially trying to merge on to the freeway and overtaking a slow moving car.

Yes, the mudflaps(GM) were easy to install after I got through one of them. The rear flaps were a little more difficult because the tire was in the way, at least with the front tires, you can turn the wheel. It looks good...perfect fit! Now I want to get the chrome gas cap and marker lights on top for the front and back but I need to save some money first so I can feed my kids. lol.
