This was well understood many posts ago.......

The original question was asked because half of our burn room has "wooden shelving" now opposed to the metal racks we were using. The wood shelving being used seems to be cooling the room down...we have been monitoring the room temp and it is cooler, with the same amount of computers on burn.........

The only thing that has changed is the conversion to the other shelves.

One would think that wood would be worse than wire except if the wire was wire with no wood. The truth is that all wood would be worse than wire wouldn't you aggree?

They are very nice and strong metal shelves, with a wood base. More of a particle board but about 3 inches thick that the computers sit on instead of sitting directly on the metal.

The metal shelves were getting hot to even brush up against. Now we just hope the wood doesn't warp too much over time.

WhyTF are you worried about the retention of heat in the shelves??? And how would you imagine that a shelf could possibly produce heat?

Take out a few ceiling panels. You'll notice a huge difference depending how low your drop ceiling is. Too bad you can't feed a ventilation in there. Summer will be hell.
