Default Quick question: Toyo MT vs BFG KM2

Im finally getting around to purchasing wheels and tires for the beast and was wondering about which tire to get Toyo MT or BFG KM2. I live in Chicago so I need something with decent road manners in the snow and wet pavement, but it also has perform offroad well in muddy and sandy conditions. I have BFG ATs with 68k on them on my truck right now and want to go a bit more aggressive.
Thanks

I don't have any experience with the KM2s, but I have quite a bit with the Toyo Mts. They are incredibly smooth and quiet for a traction tire, and as long as you maintain alignment and rotation, they wear very well.

Hmmmm, is there a pattern developing here?

I'll second the Toyo's (although I've had no experience with the KM2..). I'm pretty supprised at how quiet and smooth the Toyo MT really is, I personally don't think they are any louder than the stock BFG AT's. The Toyo seems to have a lower pitch howl on the road where the BFG AT was a bit more of a higher pitch whine. I never drove the H2 on the stock AT's but I did have the 33" size on my F150 and I would say the Toyo's are as smooth if not more of a smooth ride than the BFG AT, granted I'm running the 37" on my 2 and there is a lot more sidewall to eat up road impact.

I do know there was another local (Fargo, ND) member on this forum that was running the 38" KM2's on his H2 and mid-winter he was franctically trying to sell them due to the horrible traction he was getting. I have good expectations for my winter use of the Toyo MT, they heavily salt/sand the roads up here so ice shouldn't be too much of an issue, mostly the deep snow we get. Another option you may want to look at are the Mickey Thompson MTZ or ATZ tires, both of them have an agressive tread pattern and appear to have excellent siping for wet/winter road driving.

Overall I've been very happy with the Toyo to this point, regardless of how much I paid for them.

i currently run 37 KM2 tires.
i think i bought them off the buy in Fargo ( mentioned above)

they suck on ice.
on packed, or unpacked snow, they are great
i would say they are good on wet roads as well.

wear wise.. i have had them on for just about 1 year now and have put about 15k to 20k miles on them so far, and there is still a ton of tread 65% to 70% left on them. when i bought them, i was told they were used for about 4k miles.

there is some road noise. not as loud as what i had on my cherokee, but i dont remember the brand i had either.

then there is price...

new these tires cost over $600 each
i picked them up for $1200 for 5.. 1 being the spare that is brand new.
still have it in my garage, and unsure what i will do with it when i need new tires.

The Goodyear Wrangler Dura Trac looks to be a nice option as well, it has a more aggressive tread pattern than the stock BFG A/T's, its also winter rated and overall is supposed to be pretty quiet. I was looking to replace the A/T's on our 2006 with the Dura Trac's, we ended up trading in for the 2008 and the tires (BFG A/T's) are still like new so Im no longer in the market for tires.

I'm running 37 KM2...they look great, but wear faster than I expected. I've had my alignment checked a few times and religiously have my tires rotated with every oil change.

I've got about 18,000 on them and I'm about 40-50% through the tread.

They did great during the triple blizzards that we got in MD last winter, good on wet roads, great off-road, a good bit louder than the ATs but not overly annoying...unless your right next to a jersey wall with the windows down.

I got the Toyo MT on my Hummer and the KM2 on My lifted Cherokee. The Toyo's ride a tad smoother and a lil quieter, but both tires are relatively quiet for mud tires.
