OK guys I am looking for some sand dunes to go wheelin on in NC or somewhere close by on the East Coast. I've googled this one quite a bit, but come up with nothing everytime. I very seriously doubt NC has any dunes that you can legally wheel on...never heard of or seen any. Just got the fever for dunes for some reason and can't find any. Any and all help is appreciated.

You and I need to talk!!! I've been going crazy looking for somewhere and someone to go off road with!! I use to go to Onslow County, but they won't let civilians on the beach anymore.

Definitely...there are plenty of sandy beaches here in NC that you can wheel on and I have been on most of them, but none have dunes. I was looking at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears, MI, but that's a heck of a drive just to go dune wheelin. I have a buddy that has a 4 runner that would probably go also if we can find somewhere to go. Him and I have been to the Uwharrie National Forest several times in NC which is mostly wooded trails and a little tight for my H2 (i.e. scratches to h3ll ). If you can find something, definitely let me know. I am sure I can find a few people that would be willing to go including myself.

What beaches in NC have you gone on?
I recently joined the Southeastern Hummer Club (as the 1st H3 member..yoohoo), simply to try to link up with others and find places to go. They went up to Greenville a couple weeks ago...but I was unable to make it.
I will keep a look out and keep ya posted.
I'm assuming your heart not set just on dunes?

I've been to about every beach access on the outer banks. Fort Fisher has a nice beach access that we go out on regularly. I have been on trails recently and just normal beach wheelin. I'm just on this kick for some reason to go dune wheelin.

Yea definitely. I am building a new house and it is almost done. I will probably be tied up with that stuff for the next month or so, but after that, I'm ready to go.

I know about Fort Fisher (Wilmington) beach riding too. I know that you can ride on the beach in Kill Devil Hills and they have some large dunes for "dune boarding". I'm in NC too contact me too if you go wheeling your H3.

I actually have an H2, but either way...The dunes in KDH are strictly off limits. That's Jockey's Ridge you are talking about I think. Would be really cool to hit that up. I am sort of thinking of going to Fort Fisher to do a little wheelin maybe two weekends from this one. I would like to go at night. Maybe go during the day and then again that night. I really want to try out my lights since I've put them on. Haven't had a chance to do that yet. What part of NC are you in? I really wasn't going to go until later in the year, but I am dying to get back on the beach. It's so much fun. If you or HIHUMMER are interested in possibly going PM me and maybe we can work something out.

I realized you had an H2 after I had posted. Hope you wouldn't mind an H3 (econobox) tagging along--may be interesting to see if I could keep up with you. I'm in the Raleigh area (Clayton).

NO definitely not. I would love to see how the H3 does. Haven't had a chance to see one in action. Not sure how much wheelin you are into, but if you want to do some trails, let me know and we can hit up Uwharrie National Forest sometime.

Undeveloped neighborhoods north of Carova. The "roads" might as well be dunes.

What's the d@mn deal? Why is it so hard to find some decent dunes? You don't have any up there in VA Ken?

Let me know when. Most likely in November after my 9 year old son finishes football season (October 29).

Alldunn, you shouldn't be riding on dunes anyway. They are vital to the eco-system and have little animals in them ect... But the roads in Carova, NC like Ken said are/were fun, but I haven't been there since my parents sold the beach house.

Dunes kinda suck anyway, you should go to Paragon next time or Uwharrie (Baden Lake) NE of Ablemarle has some trails or head to Tellico near Murphy.

CP, that's why I am looking for "legal" dunes. If I didn't care and wanted to go to jail I would hit up Jockey's Ridge. I have been to Uwharrie several times. The picture below is at Uwharrie. The trails are just too tight for the H2 though. I usually just ride along with a buddy of mine in his 4-Runner. When are you guys going to Paragon next? I may try to make that one.

I will keep you guys posted on the when/where. They are very very close on finishing our house, so I may be tied up with moving and whatnot for the next few weeks.

If you want Legal sand dunes you need to head up to MI.

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7...4760--,00.html

Or take a trip to Beaver State Park ATV/ORV Area in OK.

If you really want sand, take a road trip out West.
