Had the cars out of the garage thanks to needing to clean up a bit in there, snapped a few pics while my other cars were out with our new H2

That is an excellent example of a Hummer without the brush guard/grill. It looks cleaner. Mine has brush guard and offroad lamps, and I am not changing it, but often wondered if it is better without all the stuffs upfront.
If I do it again, I will do without air suspension(less risk), no grill, no offroad lamps, in fact, I'll do without all the options except the leather seats. For sure I would not buy all the extended and service warranties. My calculation is $6,000 savings.

Yeah, I agree with MAC. It looks really nice without the grille guard.
And DAMN, could those houses be any closer together?

Welcome to California living, Mike. I grew up in the midwest where an acre was affordable...here it isn't even AVAILABLE let alone affordable. Those are probably $400K homes, minimum!

At least it's not sub-zero and your not shoveling snow. Sometimes I wonder who has it the best. 4 years, 3 months and 18 days and we can leave here for warmer climates. And rocks - I really hate mud. Most of what we have here ends up being mud, mud, mud. Takes forever to clean.

wow, and I thought things were getting bad here.
I always pictured big houses in Cali as having big yards. Maybe I'm watching too much MTV Cribs.
I could never live like that, I need my space.
My dream is an old farmhouse in NH or ME with a nice piece of land and a big barn. Not like I'll ever be able to afford THAT either.

It might surprise you to discover what you can buy in Maine these days. There are still great bargains in the traditional farmhouse and barn kinda thing. And remember, "Maine, the way life SHOULD be" :-)

No argument here. I left the midwest by happenstance, but I've had a few opportunities to go back and haven't taken them. What you give up in housing (due to cost and location) you make up for in salary, entertainment (and of this I mean a whole lot of things including professional sports, off-roading, sightseeing, etc.) and good weather. Thursday at lunch, I changed clothes and took a run along Embarcadero. Yesterday, my husband and I cleaned out the garage in t-shirts because it was almost 70-degrees here. I'm not moving.
All of that said, we're looking to leave CA for retirement. I don't want the state taking any more of what I make, and frankly, I don't think I can handle this liberalism for a lifetime. I suspect that we'll choose someplace like Texas (although Wyoming appeals to me) and live there part of the year while keeping a condo in the Bay Area.
Mike, the idea of a farmhouse in ME or NH sounds like pure heaven. I love to remodel (not have a contractor do it) and living like that would be awesome. I'm hoping for a ranch when we retire where we can have quarter horses, but I digress...

As a result of participating in this forum, I have changed my mind from getting a fully loaded H2 to only leather, sunroof, wrap brushguard and CD changer. I'll also pick up some u-steps on eBay. I still think the brushguard adds a nice touch and takes away from all that chrome up front.
I think I owe Jason a commission on my savings.
Oh, and Kelley, Dennis has it right. Check out Maine. Savings + house in Maine + H2 = heaven.

1/2 acre to 1 acre lots can be had here in So. Calif.. They actually do exist, but for a pretty penny. There are nice suburban pockets (translation: safe, good schools) close to downtown Los Angeles. 45 minutes to Santa Monica Beach, 1 hour to the Mountains and snow, and at the hub of the entertainment capital of the world with year around summer weather? Aside from earthquakes, we wouldn't consider calling anywhere else home!
