I was drive my beast yesterday and noticed that my left rear tire was low (keep 47 psi in each). I did not drive my beast the day before and attended a football game Saturaday night (Arizona vs Oregon).

When I stop and looked at the tire to my surprise there perfectly placed was a rather large LAG BOLT in my tire (large size about 2" long).

This bolt had to be placed in the position on the tire and force in by hammer or screwed in (it even had a washer on it that fit between the treads). I believe it was the "University Enviromentalist Type"

So now I have changed the tire and will need to see if tire shop can repair this tire (big hole). BTW the tire changing tools and process was very easy to do and use.

I know it is not as bad as some other damager to members by these sick people - but it is alarming to the attack on our properity.

Not to down play your problem or even say that it wasn't intensional. I had the same thing happen when I was a college and it is possible that you ran over it. I still have the thing and still think that there was no way that it was done intensionally. Of course it could be in your case.

You could be right - however that was a big bolt and in my opinion had to either be place in position for me to roll over or it was screwed in - anyway just another great day - Thanks for your comments

Exactly how was it "placed"? I know guys that work for tire companies and they keep a 5 gallon bucket full of stuff that gets stuck in tires and I've seen a lot of large lags in there.
Was your lag green?

I am not good at lag sizes, but the head of this lag fits into a 1/2" socket size.

Also the bolt is between the tread so that the head is not engaging the road.

Sounds like a random screwing. Good thing offroad tires have sturdier sidewalls.

Hey Tucson...

If the tire is beyond repair....here is the best solution:

Your local Hummer dealer likely removes several stock wheels/tires and replaces them with some after-market blingers....well....GM doesn't buy them back and I have it on excellent word that the dealer merely sells them at massive discount back to tire stores.

I've confirmed many dealers have stock-piles of stock rims with beautiful new tires just sitting around their yard. Mine does!

Head on down to your dealer and give them that sorry-ass pathetic look in your eyes routine. I'm not a good actor, so I just imagine and give the look I have when my wife tells me her parents are coming over for dinner.

I've heard dealers are selling complete sets of 4 tires-on-rims for about $250...what's one tire gonna cost ya?

Oh yeah...I suspect it was just an accident. Trust me....why flatten your tire when they could drag that lag down the side of your paint and really take it to ya....(sad but true).

I'm w/ Steve on probably just picked it up along road or ?.
I just got a couple of tires from dealer $50.00 each, almost cheaper than plugging and lots safer.
I once had a 5/16" L allen wrench thru one of my truck tires, ????????? once in a life time deal I hope.

Isn't there some kind of road hazard program BFG has going on the tires? I recall there was postings about it in the past. Maybe you can get a new one from BFG??

Hey Steve R

Thanks for the suggestion with the Dealer - I will call today. Also Dan I will ask then about the "road hazard program" from BFG. I guess that a bolt of this size could just enter my tire and is an accident - but I am still wondering how !!!!

Alberto is correct. I just took mine and for some clunking noise and they said my control arm was loose. after that it runs fine.

Sound like to me that you hit a nail or in this case a bolt in the road.
Has there been any construction going around where you parked?
Nuts, bolts, screws and nails always fall of trucks in our area when
there is building going on.
Btw you never said if it was fix-able
