Default The decline of western civilization

Took my H3 in for an oil change today. Hit 11.5k on the oil - got the warning, thought it would be a good idea. My H3 is dirty (not DRTY), it's covered in mud and scratches. It has a bunch of camping bins on top. The tires sidewalls are all scratched up. The inside is covered in dust and mud and dirt and dog hair.

Service manager asks, when I take it in, "Would you like us to wash it?" Sure, I think, WTF, not my dime. Plus, it will look like every other Hummer I've ever seen in the Portland area - clean!

So they change the oil (and replace all the bolts), and I'm waiting to pick it up. One of the tech geaks and I are chatting about their demo model (Rancho lift, 35's etc) when they pull up my hummer. He's looking at it (roof rack, camping gear, bins, etc) and asks "Do you do a lot of camping in that?" Sure, I say, I go camping a lot. "Ever go offroad?"

Let me say, at this point, with scratched sides, loaded roof rack, camping gear, bins, etc. I was wondering what this guy was thinking...

Dave: "Sure, I have some, mostly for camping, but went offroad a few weeks ago with some other Hummer owners. I'm actually thinking of crashing their Moad trip in a couple weeks"

(note: this is a giveaway, I'm trying to get time off work, it likely won't work out, but if it does, I'll show up last minute)

So the Hummer technician. Guy who works on my truck. ASE certified guy, asks me the following question: "Where's MOAB?"

I $hit you not. I dunnno if I'll ever take my Hummer back there again...

Dood, do what I do. I just say,"I'll be gone from the 10-20 of August." Sure their faces crumple up a bit....they'll get over it

Oh and, take it easy on the kids, I didn't know about Moab until about 15 years ago

My Jeep had a bumper sticker that said "Got Moab." When I lived in TN, I was asked a dozen times, "what's a Moab." My usual answer was, "Mother of All Bombs," and that got some strange looks.
I now have a sticker on my Hummer's rear window that says MOAB, but just below that in small letter is Utah. I still was asked, "what's a Moab Utah."

Ever notice why New Mexico license plates say "USA.?" Many people do not know New Mexico is a state.

A couple of weeks ago my selling dealer and who I used for service for little while because they were convient called. He said he needed the paper work for my last service. Long story short I thought he meant when they did my inspection and a warranty item. I forgot all about it and he called again saying to was for work done by my other dealer and asked who it was. I told him NuCar did the work and call them.

He didn't know who NuCar was. I told him it is only the second largest dealer and probably one of oldest. "I'm new to the who Hummer Line."

But that still doesn't beat some other dealers that have said, "I can't find your part because Hummers weren't made in 1997."

They weren't made in 2003 either. They were all AM Generals then as well, even the H2. I still encounter that on occasion.

Yeah, my new boss doesn't really like that. I have to grease her for anything more than a day or two off, write a novel about 'backups' keep my cell phone handy just in case, blah blah blah. My old boss was like "You went on vacation?" but now it's like I'm in high-school, need a hall pass to go to the bathroom

We'll see what happens, that's why I haven't said anything yet. It will probably be a last-minute decision either way.

I live in NEw Mexico U.S.A. and it is common for people back east to forget theri si a state between Tex and AZ. One of my Uncle's asked my Dad if he came to visit would he need a passport. I use to draw a map as a child to my friends back in OH to show them where I lived. My question is Where is the Paragon?
