Default Removable Doors

I drove from Mississippi to Tennessee today on the Natchez Trace Pkwy (highly recommend). The weather was perfect for cruising with the windows down and the sunroof open. Seeing lots of motorcycles and a couple of Jeeps on the drive, I wondered if anyone ever took their doors off for the summer? I want to look into a way of customizing the door hinges to make the doors quick release like the Humvee (HMMWV) doors. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts?

Never seen it. I have thought of buying an 03-05 and chopping it, Putt in a full roll cage. Maybe a bimimi top and boom. No doors. No windows.

You should also check your local regulations on driving on public roads without doors before investing too much time in the project. Here in Vancouver, you're only allowed to remove the doors if the vehicle was offered for sale with only tube doors (like the Jeep CJ. TJ came with removable doors, but you're still not allowed to take them off, because it came with doors from the factory). It would be cool though to stick some tube doors on there for the summer

I second that!!! More rules and regs than you can think of. Also 60 mph or 100km on 4 lane highways, 70 mph would be great but 60 mph is the limit and if they catch you at 81 mph or 150km they charge you with racing even if no one is around you. On top of that they take your lic and a big fine and also sieze your truck at least in Ontario. Do not speed if you ever come here. I set the cruise at 60 mph so i don't get tickets if i use my foot i am always alittle over 65 mph.

i was looking at hinges from the old school broncos. i called the shop up and they said those doors normally weigh around 80-90 lbs. im not exactly sure how much h2 doors weigh, but i think i am going to attempt this.....i expect alot of damage before any good comes out.

Heck, you only live once,...am I right or am I right.

Canada is an awesome country landscape wise. Hockey kicks butt. But Regs and bleeding hearts hurt the appeal. (Not to mention the 8 ft of snow a day),

You should move to America where regulation is less, there is little crime, little illegal aliens, oh and you are a free man just like the framers wanted. Oh, wait, ... We are the Country who has just raised her skirt and given its virtue away to anyone that may get offended by our Constitution. Crazy how this whole thing works. But atleast I still have my H2 and Beowulf.

Yeah, driving without doors poses no danger to other drivers, whereas some other practices, which are perfectly "legal", go unhindered. Like little ol' ladies who can't even turn their head when reversing out of a parking space.
I was pulled over last year in my Jeep, because the tires were too far out and the lift was too high. So I had to get a VI (vehicle inspection), which meant putting wider fenders on and lowering the lift, then putting everything back again after the inspection. What a pain

I have seen this done on an h3 and in IMO it was not that good looking. The door jams looked pretty bad.

I'd be interested in following your progress on this. I had a thread last summer asking the same: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...t=remove+doors ...but the conversation didn't go far.

I ultimately decided that I'd prolly do it if there was a 'kit' or a proven, documented, illustrated outline of how to do it. Even then I'd only take them off if I was going for a real off-road run. Keeping them off for any period of time would worry me too much...especially with all the granola-eating, tree-hugging, passive-aggressive whiner-babies in the MD/DC area. Someone would probably drop a big ole, GREEN, fiber-rich steamer on my driver's seat then set the inside of the truck ablaze.

...that would be a bad day.

Maybe you could make a filler kit for the ajms. That, with some half doors...SWEET. Rip that top off there and put in a full roll cage like a jeep. Im buying a 2003-2005 and doing it.
