Anyone come across a loud horn that doesn't require and air compressor? Was there another thread on this?

Try these
http://www.safetyleague.com/Products...s/airhorn.html

http://www.safetyleague.com/Products...4P_speaker.htm

This will give you the air horn you hear on firetrucks and a PA

Wow, cool, thanks. Have you actually heard one? I wonder if it has different horn sounds. WOuld be easy to add as a feature for them I would think.

It is the same sound you hear on firetrucks and EMT units. It is very loud. You can hook it up to you standard horn button. If you hold down the button you get a sustained blast.
This is the same one I have on a full Welen siren unit. It gets the attention of traffic. I use it to clear intersections on emergency runs.
The speaker is easy to mount behind the grill.

Dick, is this the one you use? Is it that really low, solid "buzz" sound?

If that's it and it is loud... Well that is just what the doctor ordered.

That is the speaker and yes it is a low< loud buzz type sound. Called a Klaxton sound. The frequency is designed to cut through most normal sound in a car [radio, fan talking etc.)

KenP
The speaker and airhorn/pa are 100 watt output
which equates to about 135 decibles. The same output as most police and fire sirens. This speaker if located behind the front grill without to much obstruction and facing forward will be very loud. Most police cars use smaller profile speakers and often have them pointed of center and don't get the full output of sound.

I have used Welen sirens and speakers for years and always locate the speaker for maximum sound output. I am always able to get everones attention and get them out of my way. I use this tone on my siren to clear intersections. It even gets the attention of the airheads with the 10 thousand watts of rock blasting in the car.

Dick, so I'll just be able to hook that up to my existing horn wires? The sound of the stock horn is wimpy. I bet that would scare the hell out of most people when you layed it on them

The box has contacts that you wire to your existing horn or you can connect an external button. You hide the box under the dash. You also have the mike for the PA that you hang on the dash. You hook the box to power and ground and you are set.

That is correct. The speaker is driven by the horn/pa unit.

That would be about right. You can shop around with police supply houses on line or local. Also, you can go to Whelens site and look up local dealers. There site is www.whelen.com
