I need one. I'm obviously considering Mile Marker and Warn. The next question is Electric or Hydraulic?

MM seems to have a very resonable price point but I really like Warn's build quality and reputation. I had a 9000i a few years back that worked great but its not nearly enough winch for our trucks.

What would you buy? How about some owner opinions?

The 9k should be more than enough for our vehicle. Especially if you use a snatch block which doubles your pulling power!
I've used my 8k Warn, and have yet to be limited on it abilities.
I think you'll find unless you have the winch fixed(Not remov. cradle) the weak point will be in your mounting system, and not the winch.

Hey, I have the Warn 9.5ti. I have only had two occasions where the snatch block was necessary. both resulted from mechanical failure (not the winch). Have been able to winch out of a ditch, up and over the levy without anyproblems.. Highly recommend the Warn 9.5ti

I do respect your real world experience but a 9000lb winch is not stout enough for MY needs. I maxed out the 9000 several times on my Rover and it was substantially lighter. The last time I burried my H2, a 12K MM on an H1 (with a snatch block) wouldn't break me free. The 9000 is out of the question.

Snatch blocks are great when you have recovery options at extremely short distance but useless for long pulls.

The winch will be mounted in everyone's Favorite - Road Armor

I believe the general rule is 1.5 times your vehicle weight. I weighed my truck fully loaded and was supprised a how heavy it was- 7840lbs. with all the crap I normally carry when going offroading. A 12000lb winch would be just right. No way a cradle mount or front receiver will take that, so it will have to be a permanent mount.

The Warn 16.5 is a HUGE HEAVY winch. It's a monster. Have fun trying to find a way to mount that pig.

I started out with a Warn 9.5Ti on a multi-mount. It's a serious impediment to your approach angle. I also maxed it out on a couple of pulls and it was too far to use a snatch block.
The MileMarker 12K is a perfect winch for the H2. Add synthetic line and a safety hook and you're set.(remember these words)

ELECTRIC! not Hydraulic... the H1 guys that I know with Hydraulic winches say they'll never buy one again. My 2 cents...

Yeah, what the hottie said.
I thought electric was a given. My techs said they wouldn't recommend putting a hydraulic winch on the H2. The steering pump might not hold up to the extra strain. Can you imagine driving this thing without PS?

I have the RA bumper and a 12k hydrolic winch. This winter in Greyling MI I pulled an H1 and my H2 up a steap hill at the same time. The winch did not strain the pump and the truck idled the whole way up. I have been using the winch since the RA bumper was released and it works great.

Thanks alot guys! Your info was exactly what I was looking for.

Phil- I actually hadn't seen the specs side by side. Much appreciated.

I was leaning toward the electric model anyway but the Military application piqued my curiosity.

I know RA has its fair share of naysayers. I respect that. The Warn has an incredible price point but I'm not crazy about the styling, the capacity wasn't sufficient IMO and I got a great deal on a used bumper. Lets leave it at that for now.

Shannon, Just keep doing what your doing. A+ Your 2 cents are very nice.

This decision keeps getting easier. I wonder if its being replaced by a newer model??

Be sure that you new winch will work with your RA bumper.

Phil... How did you do that? (In the picture)and..
How did you get out of the car?

I'm going with the multi-mount and I think I'll have a mount made for the spare tire rack in the back so I can attach it inside the car, that way it won't ambush the approach angle. What'dya think?
