Default 4.56 gears and e locker

Hello all I am wanting to add 4.56 gears to my 05 h2 and the front locker. Wanted to get an idea of the cost of the parts and if there are any cons to doing this. I have the magna charger, intake, cat back exhaust, borla headers (which have cracked 3 times and borla does nothing) and I am running the bfg muds 335/55/22 on some 22x10 wheels. I am also thinking of going with a set of 17x10 or 18x10's and some 37's but want the same width the tires have now. Any info would be great. If I add the locker do I need to add the tie rods or anything else, will the 4.56's help out any?

I have 4.56 and front locker. You should search on my post at HXC to find out how to wire it up with rear locker so the switch cant be accidentally enabled while driving down freeway. It will then only come on when rear locker is on first.

The 4.56s are an awesome mod even with stock height tires as the stock 4.10s lugged the H2 from the factory, so with 37s, they are awesome!

Along with the gears, you need to purchase Master Gear install kit and new fluid. Get enough fluid to change both diffs twice as you will need to change it at 500 miles on new gear install, even though it's synthetic fluid!

New tie rods have nothing to do with gears or locker, but I do suggest this be your first concern. The best thing you can do for your tie rods, pitman and idler arms is to add the Cognito Pitman/Idler kit! After you add that, then it's still a good idea to add larger tie rods.

Trail Duty has the front lockers on sale right now and I dont think they have many left!!!

Where do I get the gears, gear install kit and cognito pitman/idler kit? How much should I expect to pay in parts?

I wouldn't do the gears without the front locker. Why go through the expense of labor for splitting the cases & Master install kit and not do the locker especially since they are on sale? Maybe you didnt mention it because I had already mentioned where to get one?

Anyhow, trailduty has access to everything you need above. On the gears, get a combo kit that comes with front & rear gears and install kits. I think it saves you like 28% when you do this.

Please tell Phil at TD I said hello and that I referred you to them. They are really good to deal with and I try to return the favors they have done for me. Thanks

X2. This about exactly what I would have said. I have no front locker and am not interested in it. Nothing a good winch can't do. I think I spent 500 per axle for the gears at 4WP.

The steering linkage is easy and about 200 bucks. Install and alignment might run another 100 but they are easy to install.

Defintely get it from Phil D at traiduty.com.

So you dont have the front locker and dont feel it is needed? Do either of you guys have extended fender flares? I am looking into this as my truck gets covered in mud with the 335's bfg muds and wonder if I can add something like stock only wider.

I don't need a front locker. It's not worth the potential damage, IMO. I think a lift, supercharger and front locker cause more damage than they're worth.

I run 37*12.50*17 BFG Mud KM2s now and have always run 37s. I like the way the stick out from the offset Rock Crawler Series 97 wheels but I do want fender flares next.

Do you have any pics of your rim/tire set up? How wide is your rim? I am wanting to go down to a 17 from my 22 for weight savings and need a 17x10 rim but can not seem to find one. Right now I am running the 335/55/22 bfg muds on 22x10 and want that exact set up in width and height but with a 17inch rim. I love my super charger and have 40k miles on it. I think it was a must. I do worry about the front locker breaking things as well. I was told I cant even run chains on the front tires since they may cause damage? I want the gears, fender flares, and a few other things like trans pans, etc. Which tie rods should I go with? I saw that cognito pitman kit and saw they also carry a tie rod kit? Do any of you think the cognito level kit is worth it? Any other parts that can help off road? What about the warn bumper for the 9500 winch? I was thinking of changing my shocks as well and doing the steering stab as well. Any info good or bad you guys have would be great. Thanks

Actually, if used correctly, a front locker can prevent a failure. Wheel spin and then sudden traction is what mostly breaks diffs and a locker can help.

Fox shocks are awesome, but dont do any good for adding the extra travel needed when cranking up the torsion bars

If you do decide to regear or add a locker, I would advise you to purchase it from the shop that installs it. That way they have to honor any malfunctions that may arise. The last thing you want is a broken diff and the shop saying it was the crappy parts you brought them. If you buy it from the shop they have no excuses.
