Brush guard installation

Has anyone installed a brush guard on their H3? If so, how hard is it to install, and do you need to drill any holes?

I would like to see ARB come out with somthing that you could mount a winch on,(for pulling out stuck jeeps)

Yes, I did it myself. It came with a paper that says "Remove the "D" rings and install brush guard, then reinstall "D" rings. At the bottom of the page it says "If "D" rings do not come off after removing bolts see "Bumper removal / replacement instructions" For some reason there is a small bolt that holds the "D" ring on from behind. Don't know why it is there. You do not put it back in after guard inatall" I will try to post bumper r/r procesdure. BTW, It is all Metric?

That is one of those jobs that unless you have a lot of spare time on your hands, just pay the 40 bucks and let your dealer put it on.

Hi all,

I am planning on installing a brush guard on my H3. I read the instructions but I haven;t actually got down to see how the bolts are removed. Are there nuts behind the bumper that I have to remove? I did feel around and there are two relatively small access ports on the bumper. Is this where the ends of the bolts are accessed? The rest of it looks relatively straight-forward.

Also, regarding the above post, what specific tools were required? I have quite a shop but I was wondering if the install would require specialized dealer tools.

It isn't too difficult a job but can be time consumming. The early productin models had the tow hooks attached to bumper assy from the inside. If you have this style you will have to remove the front bumper and remove the small bolts holding the tow hook on. Halfway through production they changed this too a screw in the center of the tow hook on the out side. All you ave to do to see which you have is looks at the center of the hook, if you see a screw you have the easy one. I noticed in the above directions it says to remove the wheel house liners. You do not have to remove the liners. All you have to remove is the bumper. There are 2 small platic push clips all the way to the front of the liners you will have to remove. You have to remove the front skid plate to access 2 bolts under it. then there are 2 bolts on each side of the bumper that attach to support brackets. Then all you have left is the bolts going through the D-rings. before you pull the bumper all the way out disconnect the lights. once you get the bumper off and remove the 2 inner screws on the Drings throw the screws away and put the bumper back on.

I forgot to add that you do not need any special tools to do this job. The D-ring bracets are held on by 18mm and the bumper is held by 13mm bolts. I think the inside small bolts are 10mm.

My Salesman and I "helped" with the install of my brush guard. It definitly helped having us hold it in place while the mechanic put the tow hook bolts on with the impact wrench.

The mechanic put tape accross the crome grill to prevent any scracthes.
