Default Stupid Service Tech

I put my H3 in the shop monday to get my rear locker/t-case looked at since it wasn't working all the time last weekend at Long Ranch, also had a/c trouble and got the rear passenger door handle fixed, everything under warranty which was great. I knew the problem with my a/c was a resistor on the blower(very common in the canyon/colorado)but they found nothing wrong with the locker or t-case. My service writer told me straight out he new nothing about the 4wd system in my truck(thats fine he just writes the ticket) what got under my skin is the tech never called me to discuss my problem. He plugged in the computer and got no error codes so he says nothing wrong, and proceeds to leave me directions on how to use the 4wd. I've got 33,000 miles and a pretty scared up undercarriage which to me would say it's been offroad before and maybe I know how to work the 4wd maybe there should be a phone call for more info and a more complete check of the system. instead I've got it back because there is "NOTHING WRONG" so now I get to go out and wait for a failure. I guess its a wait and see.

McGinnis Hummer in Houston, very friendly people not too bright in the repair department. from what I understand they did check the system(pushed the buttons and they lit up, if it dosen't blink and no error codes it works ) I told them it appeared to work but actually never engaged they told me the computer would show error codes so I guess it was all my and my cowhellers imagination

or it could be that cheap tequila you had for breakfast.

seriously though if it happens again note the conditions under whitch it happens and then let them know. its much easier for the not so bright tech crowd. then again its not really their fault, cauze really if you cant duplicate it you cant diagnose it. its a tough job i imagine.

I do understand where they're comming from on the diagnoses stand point, I'm a telephone man, and when you say static and I get there and its ok and no truble found you cant fix whats not broke I was just hoping for a phone call to discuss the problem so maybe they could look a little deeper

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to spoonfeed the techs. I had the same/similar problem with my locker. Button lights up, but locker doesn't engage. When I took it in, I explained that to the Service Manager and the tech and told them they need to open up the diff to diagnose it, not just test the button and look for codes. Sure enough, they found worn/chipped teeth and I got a new rear axle.

Good to know, may let it go a little, dealer is an hour away and hard to get to after work before they close. If I don't get it done soon though I will demand a complete teardown if necessary before my warranty is up
