Default Major Electrical problems

Sometimes it seems like my H3 has a dead battery. There are times when the remote key doesnt work and I have to use the blade key to get in. Then there are times when the remote key works but when i go to start the car nothing happens. No ignition or anything. Like the battery is completly dead. It starts working after about 5 atempts. Then for some reason my clock keeps resetting after every key cycle. Then there will be times when Im driving and I'll hear a pop coming from my speakers, like the electrical was turned off and then back on real quick.

The only mod electricaly that I have done is electronic trailer brakes. But I'v had that installed for a while now.

Anyone else have or heard of this problem??

i had a similar thing happen when i was installing my radio. I was messing around with the bcm, had to use some of the wires so i had taken the connector off. I guess i hadnt snapped it in place rite. When i tried to start the car nothing. I poked around for a while and figured it out. If you messed with the bcm (the ting behind the passenger kick panel), its worth a try, but might not be it.

Did you open the fuse/relay box under the hood when you did the trailer brakes?
If so the two connectors inside may not have been connected properly.

You've got an intermitant OPEN circuit somewhere.. Either a loose wire in the fuse box or even a loose battery cable...

Check for trouble where you last worked and go back to mains for opens/poor conectivity.

My experience with this type of problem was a very finicky battery cable on the Ford Explorer I traded for the H3. Despite the + battery cable being tightened as much as possible, I still had the exact same problem you describe. I would have to pop the hood and wiggle the cable. And then it would start. Just a thought

Same with my old truck. The combo of mud in the summer and snow in the winter caused lots of corrosion and some I couldn't see in the fibers of the cable. Whenever I had no power or reset, it was the fault of the ground not having a significant connection to complete the circuit upon start up. I was subject to constant cleaning and adjusting of cables. White vinegar works wonders. This of course would be the easiest solution, or best case scenario. Might be worth a checking before you look deeper into the electrical system.

Thanks guys for all the help. I didnt do the trailer brake install, so I have no idea what they touched. I also had it installed way before this stuff started happening. I'll check the basics i guess before taking it to the dealer.

I pretty had same problem. The whole bit with the clock and everything. My problem ended up being loose battery connections. I started having the problem after I installed a set of PIAAs. The battery connections are a pretty stupid design. Its a special nutt that has to go down into the hole to actually get the connection to tighten on the battery post. Since I hooked the lights to the battery I now had the connectors for them inbetween the nutt and the hole at the base of the screw. So the battery connections never got really tight and you could wiggle them. Once I re-wired the lights and put the battery connections back to the way they were everything has been fine. Hope that makes sense, if it doesnt look at the nutt and the battery posts.
