From what the OP says his has lasted. This stuff seems like a dye of some sort.
The bumper seems to soak it up, it just wipes right off of plastic like the turn signal lens.
Somewhere I read it wipes right off the paint also.

Yes, it's a dye. Yes, it does wipe right off lenses and paint. My truck is white and I wasn't super careful. The remaining dye on the paint came right off with no problems. Looking forward to testing the longevity.

Take them off and gett'em Line-Xed.
Cost me about $600 to do the front bumper (plastic and metal), fender flares, the bits on the side below the doors, and the rear bumper.

That looks awesome. Worth the $600. Does the lineX fade at all? how about chipping on the front metal bumper?

There's two kinds of Line-X they had...one was the 'standard' which is what I had done. It has dulled ever so slightly to the normal, stock look...how it looked when the vehicle was new.
There was also a premium Line-X which is guaranteed to maintain a higher gloss...and they can color match this to any paint color. It would have been $150 more, but I liked the slightly dull 'new' stock look.
It's been over a year and about 20,000 miles (on and off road...and a road trip from Maryland to Maine) not a single chip on it anywhere. That stuff is TOUGH!
Yeah...$600 seemed like a good deal at the time...now I think it was a GREAT deal. Keep in mind that I removed all the parts myself, transported them, and put them back on...so I only paid for the Line-X to coat them.

that looks f in tight!
as far as the fading or chipping no and no. i was really suprised with how durable this stuff is. when i was a kid i was working at a truck yard. we did my bosses truck bed. we had engines and trannys gettin tossed in and out of it all day. never a chip or a scrape. i belive there is a lifetime warr. on it even if it does. looks good then painted also. might be something to look into |

Ya.. that looks great! I've got other priorities for now, but by the time those are done it should be just about time to re-do the bumpers...

The line-x looks effin amazing! Nice!
How was the fit when you re-attached the bits n pieces? Did having them coated effect the way they lined up with anything?
I may have to drop by the line-x dealer and have a talk about this. |

Man that line-x looks great. I did not realize it would stick to plastic! But $600 is a lot more than a $12 bottle. lol.
I use the bedliner in a can on my bumpers all the time. lol.

The fit was tight on some parts...especially on the sections where the fender flares overlap, or tuck under, the bit below the door (running board?). When I took it to the Line-X shop they asked me to lay the pieces out so they could see how they went together and where they overlapped so they knew what to coat and what not to coat.
On some of the pieces that attach with the push-in clips/buttons I had to open the whole back up a little with a large drill bit...but all in all it snapped back together very nicely.
Beauty of the whole thing is that everything matches...I got the whole idea when I bought the sides steps. They came with the replacement 'running boards' that have the notches cut out for your foot...but the running boards were not textured like the stock pieces; the new ones were actually meant to be painted to match the body color...so I thought 'what would make them all match AND be rugged as hell?' -- Line-X!

The tech at the Line-X store said the same thing about plastic, but the owner of the shop showed me samples of other things he'd sprayed. Trust me, it sticks to plastic. This guy had test coated it on everything...glass, plastic, metal, wood...Line-X is awesome.
Funny you mention the bedliner in a can...my nephew has a Jeep Laredo and wanted to do his truck just like mine (until his found out how much it would cost...he's only 16 and $600 is fortune to him) so we ended up doing his with the canned bedliner. We put on about 4 coats and it turned out pretty good but I worry about how this will hold up over time and after a high-pressure car wash.

Well let me clarify my Bedliner in a can usage. I only use it on the steel parts. Not the plastic. I really don't know how well it would hold up on plastic either. I have found that after offroad trips my rockrails, and bumpers typically get scratched up. So I just shot it all with bedliner in a can. It really holds up very well to washing and I have not had any problems with it flaking at all. But it does get scratched off when I go dragging the truck over boulders. However I just use a wire wheel to get the rust out of the scratch and touch it up with a little and I am good to go!

Just cleaned the SUT on beautiful day here in NH. Man, the stock plastic bumpers get worse every year. I have posted on this thread before, i used "BLack Again", and that would last only a few rains and washes. Its time to try the Griots product in the next couple of weeks.
Any feed back from the guys who have had it on for a long while now with-out reapplying?

No problems for me and I've been washing my truck 2x a week at the drive up do it yourself carwash that uses the power sprayer.
I did notice a little white dull area but I hit the bumper with some maquires plastic cleaner an all has been well since.
