Watch and see, as this Hurricane comes and goes, there will be destruction, and some loss of life, but overall you will see Texas do very well with preparing for it, and reacting to it. Texas will also do a good job of working with the Federal Government to help people and get life back to normal in a hurry. You won't see people all stuck at a convention center or the Astrodome crying, why are they leaving us here to die. You won't see thousands of people stuck on their rooftops, and you won't see a bunch of people blaming the government for one reason or another. This hurricane is stronger than Katrina, but Texas is about to show the country that Katrinas devestation was caused by a major lack of prepardness, lack of planning, and lack of competent leadership in LA to help deal with the situation.

I also just heard from a friend that Louis Faricon (spelling?) said that one of the levees that breached after Katrina was probably purposely blown up with a bomb to flood out the poor black people living in the area. Somebody needs to blow that SOB up.

Though San Antonio probably wont be affected at all I still believe in being pro active just in case. So, that being said, me and several of my freinds will begin "looting" this evening at the local Wal Marts and Targets. To sum it up best I borrow a quote from one of the "guests" from the local shelter who, was sadly evacuated from their home in N.O.

"Iz is gonna get mine fo show...biatch"

We won't have the looting problems in Texas like they did in N.O. for 2 reasons.
1. Our police forces won't run and hide like a
bunch of pu**ssies.
2. You try pulling that s**t in Texas, and you get shot.

Early this morning, they opened up the interstate that leads out of Houston so that all north and south bound lanes are heading north. I don't think you can set something like that up in an hour or 2, that takes a little coordination to do that for as far as that have it going like that.

After Charlie last year the drive from Orlando to Tampa was over 8 hours and usually it only takes me 1.5-2 hours. What I do to carry around gas when there is a hurricane is mount my receiver hitch rack and line my gas cans on it. If he is going to be in traffic, I would suggest also buying a chain and a lock so nobody can steal them while stopped. I would also mount it to the front receiver so he can keep a better eye on it. If you/he doesn't already have the gas cans, it could be hard to find them. The best anyone could find, if any at all, around here last year during the storms were 2 gallon cans. I stocked up on the 5 gallon cans earlier this year. Good luck to your son.

Open part of freeway is only half of the solution, there is not one gas station in town that has any fuel left. National guards can only provide limited quantity of fuel. Now I wished I would have gotten a gobi rack and 10 jerry cans to go on top of it

Is anyone surprised, those dumb s.o.b.'s running New Orleans couldn't close an umbrella.

Yes, that is a quote from Jackie Gleason I stole there, can anyone guess the movie?
I'm sure you've all seen it.

What I want to know is why are local Houston news station are reporting about traffic jams and lack of gas so people are stuck on freeway for hours but yet they continously advsing people to leave their home. As of right now there is no way out of Houston unless you have enough gas to take you 200-300 miles out of town in 10-25mph traffic assuming it doesnt stop completely.

I agree with Paragon, wait it out and see if it is even worth trying to head back before a few days have passed.

It's an emotional thing to do but he wasn't well prepared before it got here, he needs to hang out with you guys and let things get sorted out first. Unless it's an emergency my suggestion is to wait to feel things out. It might save a lot of frustration and undue effort.
