Default Insurance from US to the other side of the pond

Say a person had an opportunity to go on safari to the other side of the pond.
You wanted to bring your rig. You have a container all set to ship there and back for the 2 to 3 months your there.

How does that work with insurance? Are insurance policies for US only OR do you get coverage world wide?

The other wuestions is do you have to change out running lights, fender flares, and all that garbage to be legal in their countries?

State Farm?
American Family?

ANyone have experience with this?

Have you thought about renting one once you get there? That way you would definitely have coverage by charging it to your credit card. Many limit the kind of vehicle, so check on that before you charge...go with the best. Another think to consider is whether you need an international drivers license to drive in that country.

Good luck and have fun!

I shipped a HD motorcycle years ago,The fluids all have to be removed,no battery .PITA took a while to get there(shipped it for wifes uncle)

You have to get the international lic on this side of pond.

I beleve insurance on rentals wont cover off road damage(my brother in law sunk a 4x4 on a stream in aruba many years ago and amex didnt cover it ?,check with Amex if they cover rental insurance over there?.

Tim-
There's two blokes in these threads that know a thing or two about what you want to do.

I've rented in a number of European countries without any special license. Weird.

Tim, there is an article about getting your rig overseas and covered in one of the Off Road Adventures magazines. I'm sure you could find a copy of it.

The international drivers license is no problem - just go to any AAA office with two passport pics and $15 and they give you one - there is a downloadable PDF form on their website - I just filled one in yesterday - I didn't know that I needed one here in Korea.
