CABINS OR CHURCH IN VEGAS
Our Boyscout troop is flying into Vegas in March to hike and camp in the Grandcanyon.
Does anyone have any info on anything in the area for us to spend a nite close to the airport or Lake Mead area?
We're getting around 9-10pm and didn't want to have to pitch tents.
Thanks, TIM

As a Dog Scout we had to pitch our dog house.
You must be hiking the far west end of the Grand Cayon. What part of the Cayon our you going to?

Re: CABINS OR CHURCH IN VEGAS
I believe that the closest end of the Grand Canyon is at least 2 1/2 hours away by car. The closest town to Lake Mead on the Nevada side is Boulder City, I think ... and that's about 40 minutes from the Las Vegas Airport. There is an 'ok' motel-type inn there called Boulder Inn (you can see it online). Are you arriving on a weekday or weekend? Weekday prices (Sun thru Thurs) are less expensive. There is a Hampton Inn on Tropicana Blvd (across the 15 Hwy), not far from the LV Airport .. very clean and serves a warm complimentary breakfast in the morning). Check online .. rates change almost daily ... you could catch it at a low price. Also, very near the airport is the mega MGM Grand, which offers very low rates if you are good about checking rates online. Also, the old Tropicana Hotel .. very inexpensive, especially weekdays. Annnd, of course, there's Hooters Hotel very near the airport ..but, LOL, I don't think I'd go there with the Boy Scouts. Are you definite on the Grand Canyon? If not, there is a great hiking area in Red Rock Canyon (civilians and military use it for hiking, camping, etc... check it online) .. and near by is the brand new Red Rock Canyon Casino Resort, right outside the community of Summerlin. There are several forum members here from the Las Vegas area .. hopefully they'll look in and post. I live in California, so I only have limited knowledge about LV. Good luck!

Re: CABINS OR CHURCH IN VEGAS
Well, if we're going by OUR choices .. I'd take my #1 choice: Four Seasons Resort, then, #2 Bellagio, #3 MGM Grand, and #4 Paris. BUT, Tim was asking about a church or something close to the airport WITH boy scouts .. which made me think $, not $$$$.

Tim, since you're with Boy Scouts, I'd stay at the Tropicana. Super cheap for the strip and the boys will be right in the middle of everything just across the street from MGM, NYNY and Excalibur. They'll love seeing the castle and you're only minutes from the airport.

MGM has a good special and you can sign the kids up for the players club and get more points at the buffet.

doesn't matter.
We're trying to keep the price down so more boys can come w/ us.
We're not a rich troop but do like to offer the boys some fun stuff to do.
We're set on hiking / camping into the canyon from the south rim.
Air fare is the major cost for us.
We stay in churches and military bases quite a bit, fort Knox was fun along w/ Wright/Patterson AFB (they have their own scout troop).
