Anyone installed an air compressor under the hood yet? I would appreciate a photo to see where you got it on so I can shamelessly copy . Thanks.

Might want to check out Hadley products.

www.hadley-products.com

They list all kinds of compressors and air horns. I picked up the Hadley Bully-Electric Dual Air Horn Kit (code: XXXH00961EA). It's real loud! Dealer installed compressor and horns between grill and radiator. Hooked the horn wires right into steering wheel horn pad. Threw the wimpy factory horn away. Horns are metal so they won't crack in freezing temps. Plus, it comes with an air hose that attaches real easily to compressor through the grill slots. The one I chose is a bit pricey, but I figured with air horn and air hose - it's kinda like a "two-fer".

(6) mount compressor using wing nuts so that the compressor is easy to remove for fuse access

If you bolted it to lid with wire disconect couldnt you just unplug disconect then just pop off the fuse lid with the compressor attached.

jp's-h3 let me know how you make out with install and list pics.
Is the compressor you are talking about this one thats listed on ebay?ebay compressor link

Yeh cant wait to get it and install . A inexpensive addition to the H3,that will be very usefull over the next few years.

I dont know why it wasent designed in at the factory. My brothers VW suv has one and it works well. Those germans know how to engineer cars and trucks.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">that the CO2? How often do you have to refill or reorder the tank? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Check http://www.powertank.com website. They have the actual figures. But its difficult to say, depends on how big your tires are and how low you air them down when roading. But a 10 gallon tank isn't going to go empty on you in just a couple of air ups... Also the air compressor is just another thing that can wear out or break. CO2 is safe, portable, and cheap.

Hey fourfourto!
The one on ebay looks simular but, mine is made for larger tires. I'll find the manufacturers info and post it for you. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Thanks

I have found that the best place to mount the air hose connection is along the frame rail in a good central location.

pics when you get them

Yeah I do the same thing Just jokin.

I beleve the viair compressors are pricy. The masterflow mf 1050 for $79.00 should be all I need.a couple bucks for a switch couple more for a remote hose ,some wire, a fuse ,a quick disconect and some bolts and nuts it should come to a total of about $100.00 or so. At the beach they supply air and most light offroading theres no need to air down. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

The super flow already has an in-line fuse and plenty of wire. so that will cut your cost by about $4.50
I went to a local hose supplier (house of hose)
and spent about $16.00 for a 6' length of hose, a male and female coupling and I'm in business.
Now I just need to find time to install it all!
SOON, VERY SOON!

Unless you're planning on putting in an air locker I don't understand why you would want a hard-mounted compressor. Why not just go with a portable like the Viair/QuickAir? Just pack it up when you need it.

Mark you have been here long enough to check page 1 and page 2 before asking about page 3 .

Yes I would prefer to mount the compressor .I dont want to store it and fill up one of my compartments. And you should always carry a compressor with you It does no good sitting at home and taking it out just when you go wheeling.

Also installed is cool </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

yeah yeah... i know... just got lazy! I'll monitor the thread to see the pics when they are up!

I was actually looking at Viair compressors. they have both flavors. Portable and once you mount on the vehicle. Obvously the ones you hard mount need a seperate tank to hold the air. But if you can find a place to mount the portable one that would work great! </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

That's one nice feature w/ the Super Flow, you don't need an air tank. works great without one.

Just to let you know I removed fuse box top the other day it was cold and 2 clips broke.Be carefull removing in the cold .If not covered by warranty (probobly not) it will be around $30.00 .Your wing nut idea is probobly better than trying to remove with compressor attached when its cold.
I will get a relacment next week.Cant wait for install advice and pics My mf-1050 left Ca yesturday should be in by the time I get back.Looks like install next weekend .I hope I dont need it this weekend.

Power Tanks can be dangerous, plus you have to refill them. I would rather have it take a little longer to fill up a tire than to have a tank explode in my rig!
