Default Gas tanks both run empty on 1/4 tank

I ran both tanks empty on 1/4 tank on the gauge. Then when I fill it up I get 12 gallons to the reserve tank and about 20 gallons on the main tank. Any suggestions on what it could be, where to begin, or where to go besides a dealer.

Your fuel tank senders are probably the problem. They flat out suck. I have the same problem with my truck. I bought a new AUX tank sender a while back at the dealer, I want to say it was 45.00, so they are not to expensive. Any local shop could install them for you. You could replace the gauge first just to make sure its not the cause, it is a hell of a lot easier to fix then the senders. I would probably start there just for kicks, and its alot cheaper and easier to fix then the senders.

Thanks for the info. I tried the gauge and it said I have a little more gas than my stock gauge. It sounds like its the fuel tank senders. Thanks Again!

Definitely sounds like bad sending units. But kind of curious that they would go out simultaneously.

Also make sure the fuel tank vents are not plugged, this can cause the tank to collapse and give false readings. When remove the cap does air rush into the tank? Usually this problem would be accompanied by a no start but a simple check none the less.

It was the ground wire. Tustin Hummer in Tustin Ca found the problem for under $50.00 Every other shop looked at my like I was driving a Lambo, took my money and found other problems and detoured me from my original problem. Great Mechanic with great service, Ask for Mike S. Plus their service prices are fair and written on a piece of paper not a guessta... Thanks for the help.
