I have ordered the "Off Road Lightbar" I have not yet attempted to install it. I am kinda nervous about drilling holes into the roof. The instructions say to apply "GM Super Lube with PTFE (Part # 12371287) to the riv nut. Does anyone know what this is?

this super lube is just a vasiline type lube to keep the bare metal from rusting where the new hole are drilled. but after doing a few and fixing a few that other put in I use a little bonding agent on the rivit nuts cause they have a bad habit of working loose. I use Duramix. Oh ya be real carefull around the wind sheild we have had two break when installing the wire harness up the drivers a-pilar. Have fun !

I finally got up the nerve to do the install. Not very difficult at all. It only took a couple hours. Looks great! The only problem I had was getting the fuse box back together. The instructions explaind well how to take it apart but left out parts of putting it back together. I used silicone sealent on the rivnuts, worked OK.

PS: No wind noise at all!

I picked up my off-road lights today and will be installing them over the weekend. I have a new set of instructions that is supposed to address the wind shield issue.

Mark805, thanks for the encouragement. I live in the Dallas area (Wylie to be exact), and I have so much fun doing this stuff that I think it would be great to get together with other H3 owners to install accessories together. Down a few, grill some kind of meat, and install toys.

WoW! That looks awesome. When I bought my H3 I asked for theselights and they had to be ordered so I passed on them (couldn't wait to take my rig home)

Your tempting me to buy my own now.

OK, I have had my off road lights installed for a while. No problems. Today I decided to replace the lamps with a whiter, brighter lamp. I hate the fact that you have to remove the entire light bar to replace the lamps. I came across a serious problem! The bolts that hold the bar on will not come out! They just turn, but won't come out. I assume the "rivnuts" are just turnung underneith.
Did I not tighten the "Rivnuts" enough when I installed them?
How do I resolve this problem?!

You're gonna have to drill the heads off. Next time you install them, lube the screw threads with moly grease and before you tighten the rivnut, put some rtv sealant on it to seal and hold the rivnut.

I don't like that option!

1) you can't drill off the heads. The rivnut and bilt both spin. Then I would have to order new rivnuts and bolts. I noticed the bolt have some kind of nylon or something one then to keep them from working loose. Even If I could drill them out, I wouls have to get out the peices.

2) To get out the peices I would have to get at them from the inside of the vehicle. Like, would I have to remove the hedliner. If so I could probabaly hold the rivnuts from inside while removing the bolts. Is this possibale?

Damn, I was so happy with my self install.
I thought I did a nice job and saved some money!!!

PS: Does anyone know the easiest way to remove the headliner? I have a sunroof.

For those that are interested:

1) Drilling was not an option at all.

2) I figured out myself how to remove the head liner. Total waste of time! the roof is double layers of steel. So, even after removing the headliner, I could not get to the otherside of the RivNuts!

3) The olny way I was able to remove the light bar was to jam a screw driver down and pry on the RivNut, while trying to remove the bolts. This process took longer than it tok to install the entire assembly!

The problem was caused by the sealant I used on the RivNut was not as strong as the white bonding material that is pre applied to the bolts. I think it is nylon.

I tried to thghten the RivNuts more, but I know I will run into this again, when I need to replace the lamps. I hope it is not for a long time. I have caused enough damage already.

More I read about those off-road roof lights, the more I am determined to install some KC thins on the front brushguard.

X2. My winshield gy tols me not to get the HUMMER OFF ROAD LIGHTS. He said he would have to shoot me! He said he has to take those or the marker lights off to change the shield. Siince I go though two a year on the H2, I expecting the same on the H3's.

GOBI + PIAA liights = NO DRILLING and lots of light!

I didn't have this problem. I'm guessing either you didn't get the rivnuts tight enough or maybe it was the lithium grease I used on the bolts.

Nice job and thanks for the info. and pictures.

I am trying to find just the switch (like the one in the picture). I went to the dealer and they found the part number but said it is not available and they don't know when it will be.

Any one have an idea?
