Default broken exhaust bolts

I brought my H2 in to check for an exhaust leak. The dealer found broken exhaust manifold bolts on both sides. They want $1000 to fix. Is this common?

Alot of h2s have had broken bolts. My 03 had 2 of them alot of people I talked to told me they always break. So I went and picked up a set of Edelbrock shorty headers for $250 and put them on, so far no problems and it only took 3 hrs. I figured if I had to remove the stock manifolds to fix the bolts I was not going to put them back on.

It is a fairly common failure. There are new bolts that are supposed to correct the problem. They are likely quoting you worst case scenario repair cost which would mean removing both cylinder heads to repair. Sometimes this is required but in most cases the broken bolts are easily removed with head removal so that is the question you would want to ask them.
