Default Use of Drawtite 65047

Nice Forum. I have a couple of vehicles and I want to be able to swap my winch between them as well as front to back when in Sand. Has anyone tried the drawtite front receiver?

http://www.draw-tite.com/fitguides/pdf/N65047.pdf

The instructions say the removal of the Skid plate or modification is required. How much needs to be cut from the skid plate? Does this interfere with the entrance clearance angle?

A picture would be nice, if anyone has one.

Thanks for any feedback.

Didn't know they had something like this for the H3, I'd like to see pix too. My truck had a front receiver that was real handy..

Can't really tell just by looking at a drawing, but the way it looks to me, I don't think that will work, unless you remove the bottom bumper all together.

I think it would look coarse and ugly with the bottom bumper gone.

The drawings seem to show a fascia, which I believe is the bottom bumper. It looks like you might be able to slot the skid plate around it. Would be nice to see one in place. Also the directions say nothing about removing the lower bumper.

The hitch would come out in the middle of the bumper, below the tow hooks. Take another look at that diagram and notice how it hangs below the frame rails. Unless you can flip the hitch so it comes out of the plastic fascia above the bumper, you're approach angle will go to sh*t.

Flipping it unmodified does not really look viable. I thought of this when I started looking at it. It does not look like it will clear the internals behind the grill without a lot of hacking.

My alternate thought was to use it as a starting point. Reform it to exit where the license plate is currently mounted and use a replacement license bracket that uses the receiver to hang the plate. That would put it centered in between the hooks, but probably still too low.

I need to retain the license plate or I'd seriously consider the Predator.

Is there a one piece grille guard with receiver winch mount?

I've thought about having a receiver style mount made.. Basically two plates to mount behind the tow hooks with a hitch bar and 2"ID receiver in the middle..

May have to pop a hole in the middle of the lower bumper for clearance for the winch receiver, but that's no big thing..

With the winch off you'd keep your approach angles and with the mount in the middle of the frame and mounts you wouldn't have the twisting forces that are found on mounts that put the winch above the frame mounts..

I would be in for one. I was thinking of trying a sandwich arrangement.

Make a bracket out of 1/4" that bolts to frame and sits behind and up against the the facia with captured nuts mounted to it. Drill the facia to allow bolts to passthru. Weld the 2" receiver to a plate and rubber coat the backside. Bolt the plates together when you need a receiver. Cover the holes with plugs when you do not.

If you could rig it to have a quick disconnect, that would be nice. I have one on my jeep (incorporated into the bumper)and only use it in the spring and fall putting in and taking out the dock, so I don?t need it all that often. I have wondered what I will do when I get my H3. This may be a good solution if I could figure an easy way to take it off when not in use.

I would like to see pics also

Wouldnt the approach angle be no worse then the departure angle with a aftermarker hitch ?.
