Default V8 a reality.

This is not hearsay, I saw it with my own eyes. I took old yeller down to the dealer for the rear end again and the sales manager showed me the papers sent to them by Hummer. No pricing yet but come September, there we will own one of the first V8s. He says more details will be coming soon. Dayum I'm glad I didn't jump on the 3.7!

He told me "About September sometime." He's going to call me as soon as ordering is allowed. Our biggest problem is what color to get since the yellow's not available. He also said that he wasn't sure if yellow was going to stay gone because of the hubbub that taking it away has caused.

Here's the true story... When we went from a 5.3 Yukon SLT to our 6.0 Denali, we gained right at a mile and a half per gallon. Doesn't figure does it. (not a question) It does to me, particularly how hard we flog the 3.5 with the heavy Hummer. The 5.3 won't be working as hard. On the freeway, it's a matter of moving the square mass through the wind. Our Denali gets 16mpg. Y'know what my H3's getting since I put the BFG ATs on it? 16mpg. So it can't be that different with the 5.3 in the H3.

I'll let you know how it works out.

I'm pretty curious about two things though, the front and rear end (will they upgrade them to put up with the increased torque of the V8) and the Adventure package (will it still come with the 4:1 tcase and 4.56 gears)

By the way, it will be called the Alpha according to the documents he showed me. Booyah!

Yea I heard the same thing at my dealer 3 weeks ago, expect the V8 in October/November timeframe. I wouldn't bank on significant improvement in gas mileage with or without DOD. But the power difference would be very significant with similar mediocre mileage. Not a bad tradeoff.

Our 3.5 and 3.7's might take a rapid depreciation hit later this year, although continued gas prices increases might temper that. I'm not sure I'm in a big hurry to take that hit right away.

We already got one here, a conversion carried out by the local dealership. It's a 440 HP 6.2 L Cadillac V8, 18" rims with 35" M/T's, competition gas shocks and thats about all I know. Price for this particular vehicle AED 260,000 or about 70,000 US$. Theres probably about $15k of that for the interior and cosmetic mods. There was a whole load of GM/HUMMER big wigs plus a couple of Sheikhs at the unveiling plus some local press. If I get any more info I'll let you know.

Cant argue with that.

But anyways, guys, theres hundreds of posts on this already. Although the bigger engine will be doing the work easier it will still be doing the same work, more or less, as whatever other engine you put in it. And since you are just changing the engine and not aero or friction then there is no way the milage will drop, except if you put a less efficient engine in, which i doubt. Work is basically what equates to how much gas it will consule, not how much noise its making.

And usetosellhummer hummer said it rite, it can only go up. but I kind of think it will most likely stay the same, because of teh little increase in weight (assume there will be some increase) from teh larger engine, and increase in weight from beefing up the powertrain, which i assume they will do if its weak, so i figure thats gona require a little more work which might be offset by a dispalcemnt on demand engine(if they put one of those in). so either pretty much the same or maybe just maybe an increase.

Some good info their.

Also ..you must consider..How many of us want a V-8..?? I'm happy with the I-5 and it's low end power. Of course I wish I had a tad bit more for passing ,but all in all I'm happy with the I-5. My driving situation is local with minimal high way usage. Maybe if it was all hi speed high way it would be a different story.

So..this brings up an interesting Question. How many of you would trade and or upgrade just for a V-8?

I'd stay right where I'm at with my 07 I-5 3.7.

Let's hear from you guys...I-5 or V-8..In your own words.

X2 The I5 does just fine,I take many highway trips and havent needed more power.Maybee if you tow alot the v8 would be needed. Its a truck if you keep it under 70 it does great on gas,. even running 80-85 mph on a long trip I got 17.4.
When I need power Ill take the 442 out for a spin.
