Default New HU and Amp w/ Onstar

Looking for input on how you replaced your LUX HU and amp and kept onstar. What module did you use and can you tell me a little about how it is wired. And most importantly, are you happy with it?

What I am looking for, is if you used one of these adapters did you have to leave the stock amp in place and run an external speaker off of stock amp?

Is there any advantage to the Peripheral vs the Pac-Audio unit?

currently...

i run a Pioneer P4000dvd HU
i have the GM harness for door chimes and on star
i have the PAC for the steering wheel control

i run the door speakers off the BOSE amp
my sub i run off a seprate amp.

i dont really have an answer on how to keep those items if you pull the amp.

honestly tho, i will be in this same situation when i get back from my deployment, and i will simply keep the amp in place and hooked up.
i just wont have any speakers running to it at all.

when i replace all the speakers, ill run them off thier own seperate amp.

thats my plan atleast

What unit did you use from Pac-Audio? I want to eliminate my amp from the install. They tell me even with their adapter that I have to use the stock amp. What I would like to do is have the audio out via an RCA on the Pac Audio unit as an input on the Pioneer avic Z1 that I want to install, but I am not sure if that is possible.

I just got off the phone with Metra and they tell me to use GMOS-01 with an SP-2003. That sounds logical to me.

Default Re: New HU and Amp w/ Onstar (Bypass Bose)

Sorry for the bump but i figured i can answer these questions..

I just replaced mu HU with a Pioneer AVH 4300dvd with the NAV mod, backup camera, MB Quart door speakers and removed BOSE while keeping OnStar.. I also have kicker cvr 12's and JL amp.

For the HU, i used a PAC OS-2 that came with the CM1 chime mod from ebay. I soldered the mods to the HU harness. I also wired up the remote wire to accept a setup for a relay so i can watch movies while i drive (info elsewhere on parking brake bypass). I also had to run a wire from my trailer hitch backup light to the back up trigger wire to the HU harness. I also wired up the PAC SWI-PS for the wheel controls and plugged in the USB extension for the ipod. Cutting the plastic behind the dash was required to cram al the wires and the PAC mods back there. The Chime mod fit perfectly under the HU and i crammed a small ammount of foam in it so it wasnt so loud.

Now to the speakers.. In the 05 the front tweeters are 1", the front doors are 6.5, the rear doors are 5.25, and the far backs are 2" tweeters. The sub is under the front console and i didnt replace it but i hear its an 8". I went with 6.5 front and rear, they will fit if you drill new mounting holes and cut some plastic tabs. Now the rears i went with 4" Alpine type S speakers using a 4" hole saw i cut the metal out behind the speaker, ran the wires and mounted them right up. Fairly easy and they still worked with the BOSE amp but because the HU has an amp built in, i bypassed the BOSE amp.

Removing the BOSE amp was easy and tricky at the same time. In order for the rear speakers to work you have to have the rear passenger control unit plugged in.. took an hour to figure that out! lol

Ok, so this is under the center console near the back, just unplug the 2 plugs. I cut all the ires about 1" from the connectors 1 at a time and removed the bose amp. I'm going to give you the connection colors and speaker. You'll have to connect the "in" to the "out" colors to bypass the amp. I soldered mine but crimp connectors work also.

The wires from the long plug: * the out wires are slightly larger than the in
Right Rear - in (black) to Right Rear - out (LT Blue)
Right Reat + in (DK Blue) to Right Rear + Out (DK Blue)
Left Rear - in (Green/wht) to Left Rear - out (Yellow)
Left rear + in (Brown) to Left Rear + out (Brown)
Right Front - in (Orange/Blk) to Right Rear + out (Dk Green)
Right Front + in ( LT Grn) to right front + out (LT Grn)
Left Front - in (DK Grn) to Left front - out (Grey)
left front + in (Tan) to left front + out (tan)

Cap off the other cut wires and tape up.

The wires from the small plug:
These are the sub wires and i just spliced them in to the rear speakers listed above.
L- (Grn/Blk)
L+ (DK Blue/Wht)
R- (lt blu/blk)
R+ (Dk Grn)

I capped the other wires and taped up.

I know the Orange is a power wire and the pink is a "remote/radio on" wire. These two will be bypassed by the new HU. Plug in the rear audio unit and you're good to go. Everything worked flawlessly with my setup and it sounded 100x better than the bose even with my MB Quart full range speakers and cheap alpines.

I hope that helps, i spend a lot of time doing research on this project and gettiing all the wires down. Please email me if you have any questions, this is a build i wont forget easily!
