Default Horrible day in my Hummer

I drove my Hummer 2003 H2 out into the total boonies last week. I started up a trail I had traversed before but it stopped climbing. I tried to back down the slope, but the orange H2 slid off the trail and jammed on a boulder. The back tires were slipping and the fronts did not seem to move at all.

I had to hike out 2 miles. I ended up getting a dozer to pull me out, and I drove the orange Hummer home.

The shifting was rough, and only the low lock would work. My mechanic says I need the transfer case rebuilt.

All told, this is going to cost me some serious money. My wife is not happy.

Its finally over! Two weeks in the shop. My front differential had a hole as big as my fist, and was in three pieces. It needed new gears and a rebuilt transmission.

Now it drives better than before, but the transfer case will not move and no yellow lights either. It is in the function I use, so I am going to live with it for awhile.

I would take it back and tell them they didn't fix it correctly. Sooner is probably better than later.

The problem with my transfer case resolved itself. It was due to a discharged battery which came about due to two weeks in the shop; (frequent starts without charge time).

I have experienced this before.

I also have two brake related alarms that come on when it is cold outside. (ABS and some other gig). I don't know why this happens but the alarms clear on the next startup.

Since I had my transmission rebuilt and the front differential replaced, my miles per gallon has dropped from 12.4 to 11.5 mpg.

The milage is all city driving, whereas the 12.4 included some highway.

The feel of the truck has changed. It seems to shift through the gears smoother.
