Default Front differential leaking

I had the seals replaced in my H2's front differential about two years ago. It was covered under my extended warranty. I recently found a couple of drips on my garage floor.

I took my H2 into the local Hummer dealership. They said the seals need replacing again. Luckily it is going to be covered by the warranty company a second time. But this time they also told me there is a GM service bulletin about putting a filter on the vent tube of the front differential to catch any oil that goes out the vent. It is not covered and it costs $125 with labor. I didn't know there was a vent.

I have always been treated fairly by this dealership. But a vent tube filter sounds a bit hokey. Opinions?

Default Re: Front differential leaking

$125 to do that is complete BS!!!!! Yes your front diff has a vent line. Its just a rubber vacum line that runs from the top of your diff to high up on your firewall. I do not have a filter on mine and I wheel the piss out of my truck. IMO that is a gimick and tell them no thanks. Just be sure to chage your diff fluid every 30K miles (or after really deep watercossings, like water over the hood stuff) and you will be fine.

I have a 2008 H2. In October 2010 it started to leak out of the front diff vent. The dealer installed a "inline" filter at no charge.
