I thought I would share my small issue with all of our H3 Members on here, just in case anyone else might be noticing a similar noise. I am experiencing a low sounding squeal from my fan belt on my H3.

It is most noticeable at cold engine start ups. Apparently when the assembly plant does it “fluid fills” sometimes there can be a slight spillage of coolant. If this fluid accidentally drips onto the fan belt it could cause a low squealing or chirping noise on cold start ups.

BTW: That issue has been corrected. I believe it only involves a very few early builds.

Yep, I've heard it twice. It appears to have gone away as it has been about two weeks since I've heard it, but yes I know exactly what you are talking about!

My H3 was doing the same thing. The steering fluid is low. Take it to the dealer, have them look at it. A lot of them came out of the factory with some things wrong.

I had that same problem only when it is cold then it fades away. It trurned out to be a defective serpentine belt. The dealer changed the belt and it hasn't acted up since.

I'm getting the cold start noise that might be belt-related. This thread dates back to 2005, but now there might be some history and a TSB maybe? Anybody got some more recent info?

I'm getting the noise only at first cold start in the morning when outside temp is below 50F. Sound/pitch changes when I turn the wheel. I checked my ps fluid level and it's okay. Any TSB on this, I guess it's a belt issue?

Still making that noise almost every morning during cold starts. I better have the dealer fix it during next oil change visit.

It's getting louder now that early morning temp is about 50 degrees. And cranking the wheel (power steering) increases the noise. After 15 seconds or so, sound goes away.

Let's talk amongst ourselves.

But I was wondering if there's a TSB that I should refer to when I take it in for an oil change, etc.
