Default Kinda Stuck in 6 inches of mud

I took my son hunting at the local state game lands, while out looking for just one damn deer it rained buckets on top of some pretty crappy weather earlier. It was just getting dark as we got back to the H3 which was parked in a grassy field. I noticed pulling in that the grass was just tearing up under the tires but no problem getting in. As we were leaving the hummer went about 20 feet and just spun, 6 inches of soupy mud. I could have backed out but that would have seemed to have been admitting I stuck my H3 so I backed up and got a little run, we made it but I ever imagined 6 inches of mud giving my H3 so much trouble. I have taken it over some serious trails up in the mountians, in some pretty deep snow over the mountians, BUT 6 INCHES OF MUD!!!!! I did have to go back and pull the guy in the F250 out after he sat there and chuckled at our difficulties getting out. He moved about 5 feet and dug himself in halfway to the diffs.

Odd, I've gone through more than 6" of mud with the stock tires and never had an issue, and now with MT's it's a breeze (thank you rain for all the nice mud and floods to play in )

Wet mud has quite a bit of suction.

it was well after dusk but i know where the guy lives, i will tell him we have to do a daylight re-enactment. I really like the stock 33 tires
but in mud they suck big time.

Have not really thought of new tires since I only have 20,000 miles but i may need to re consider.

I hope you realise their are as many kinds of mud as there are kinds of soup from thin broth to sticky gumbo. No tire or truck can cover them all. Maybe you need those tracks from Real Wheels. Regards 'The Rebel'

Exactly. We've got this clay filled mud on the Corrizo Plain west of Bakersfield. You can get stuck in one INCH of the stuff! It is slimy and packs up on the tire. No amount of wheel spin will get it off. Just walking in it, you can get up to three maybe four inches of height because it's so sticky. It takes for freakin' EVER to get it off of your truck. It bakes on like cement.

So, the depth of the mud means nothing.

Pic of after being kinda stuck...Name: 1202061351.jpg

I am familiar with several ways of being stuck... Georgia clay that when wet is like slime... Pennsylvania Mud, black and soupy with a clay base if you get too deep... Kentucky mud which is brown and think...... Saudi sepka, as close to quick sand as i have ever seen, swallow a tank to the turrent is you miss the tell tale signs.... Iraqi mud pits where all the top soil collects and hides the water and will bury a hummer to its windows...

The most stuck I have ever seen is in Saudi when a hummer broke thru the top of a sepka and sank to the door handles. no other wheeled vehicles could pull it out ( 5 ton and 10 ton wrecker never budged it) brought in a M88 tank recovery vehicle and it pulled the tow pindle and frame cross member completly off. Ended up having a Chinook Heavy lift helo lift on it and an M88 pulled the front tow hooks... which brought it out. Thank is my standard for stuck.

I would have to agree that the Georgia clay may be about the worst I have come across in the states. Slippery and if you get in too deep it likes to form suction under you ride and that leaves you digging out. It is and unique sound to hear you vehicle get un-suctioned out of the clay. We were wheeling with a friend on Ft Benning in his jeep and we swamped it crossing a stream near a pond. We had to fend of a courious gator while winching it out

I grew up in Oregon, and loved to trail ride on old logging roads in the Cascades and costal Mnts.
