Question Questions about a remote start...

After reading another thread here about a remote starter, I am thinking about buying one and installing it myself on the 3. That way momma can start it up and have it toasty warm all winter. We all know that if momma ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy!

My question is about the remote. Does it replace the fob that comes with the H3 to unlock/lock the doors? Or is the factory fob programmable to do the remote start thing? I don't really like the idea of having to carry 2 seperate fobs with the keys.

Thanks!

i think i've read around here that a competent installer should be able to configure it to work with only one remote.

Mine works off the factory fob .You click lock twice and it will start.
Otherwise you can get one with the auto start that can also open the doors.
I like the factory one not sure how its hooked up ,I had it done by a installer.

Better have a pro do it. I fyou cut the wrong line you will be at the mercy of your dealer to help or charge you. Cheaper ones work of current fob. others replace with a new fob and page system in case it gets broke in.
$600 professionaly installed top of the line

In an email I sent to DEI, they said

REQUEST:
Can you tell me if DEI offers a remote start system that utilizes the original OEM key fob remote and not a DEI remote? Vehicle: 2006 Hummer H3.

REPLY:
The Valet 561T uses the factory remote.

I wouldn't recommend doing that install yourself unless you have done several in the past!! The H3 is not the vehicle to cut your teeth on. If you do decide to try it, I would drive to the nearest Hummer dealer and do it on their lot so it doesn't have to be towed very far if it won't run after the install
